Will U.S. want control of borders?
Toronto Star, by Chantal Hébert

WHAT DO Zimbabwe, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Greece have in common? All are among the countries whose citizens need a visa to visit the United States but not to visit Canada. These days, the Canadian list of countries whose citizens are allowed to visit without a visa is twice as long as its American equivalent. In contrast with Canada's, the U.S. list of visa-exempt foreigners features no African country and precious few non-white nations. By and large, their list is made up of the richer nations of the world. How long these differences will be allowed to persist in the wake of this week's terror is just one of the many questions arising from the new North American security paradigm. What is certain is that it did not take long for the United States to signal that it wanted to get more of a handle on its Canadian back door

The US needs to control its borders. Terrorists have unfettered access to our country today, and this must end.

How many suicide bombers are in our midst? The answer is nobody knows. With laws and regulations that hamstring our intelligence and law enforcement agencies subversives are free to (and almost certainly do) enter our country by land, sea, and air. Years ago Abraham Lincoln said, “All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth in their military chest; with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.”

Lincoln issued a timeless warning: Our greatest enemy is not beyond our shores, but the enemy within. When a handful of terrorists can kill thousands of Americans, it’s time to get serious and root out the enemy within. To protect the American public, the president must issue an emergency order and authorize federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to assist the INS to secure our borders and identify and remove all illegal aliens from our shores. If this isn’t done, the next target could be your favorite pizza parlor or your neighborhood school.

Sounds like a diversionary article from the Canadians to distract us from the fact that *their* borders are hardly controlled and that they're a terrorist haven extraordinaire...

The F***ing Toronto Star is Canada's answer to the New York Times. It would NEVER enter their PC mouths (I almost said "minds")that it is a STUPID policy for Canada to let just anybody roam their airports and come on in.

We need to protect the borders of the best country in the world. Obviously, we haven't been doing such a good job. And isn't it sickening.

Of course we need to protect our borders, both north and south. Along the Mexican broder ranchers and others have been asking for help as they are terrorized by gangs, many of them drug dealers, who come across illegally. Yet no help has been given to them.

I heard on the news that US is asking Pakistan to close its borders. We should do likewise. Bill O'Reilley has for a long time emphasized that we are at such a crisis point that we have to have our military protect our borders.

Canada's borders are wide open. Chinese illegal immigrants now come to the US via Canada, instead of straight from China... it is easier!

The problem is, we share a 4000 mile long border with these people. I think Charles Bronson said once in some movie, "This is the longest open border in the world, and you people are sitting ducks for anyone with bad intent." Something to that extent. Quite true!

I suggest a wall, about 100 feet high and 4000 miles long, with minefields and guard towers. We'll let anyone who wants to leave to leave, but getting back in will be a lot harder!

we have what is known as Armed Services, they are used to protect the borders of many nations in the world, yet people say that they can not be used to protect our own borders. Now is the time that they should be used to aid our border patrols, they should secure our borders and the act of guarding the borders would be good training for them. Night missions etc.

With our overflow of immigrants from all parts of the world, both legal and too many illegals, I cannot believe anyone would critize our immigration system. Except US citizens, of course.

I wonder if the 'they are just looking for a better life' crowd might not think we crazies are so crazy.

In regard to Canada, let's just funnel all our illegal aliens up to their borders. We could just create a 'highway' and a little Greyhound therapy for them.

Let's send any who come here illegally from their country (as it seems some of these murderers did) back to them not to their original country.

How many of these so-called 'warm, hard-working people' from the south are really from the middle east.

If we cannot protect our borders, we cannot protect anything or anyone in this country!!
It all begins there.

If all these industries need 'necessary' workers, let them hire US citizens and pay a decent wage. The entire nation will benefit and we may, just may, be a little safer.

At the risk of offending someones sensibilities. Let me hold forth on the so-called Toronto Star. First, the high poobah of this publication is a chap called Honderich. Any one who doesnt believe in re-incarnation, just take a look at him. Why I do declare, it is Oscar Wilde come back to life. This is a mouthpiece for the ahem, (struggle here to hold back choking) Liberal Party of Canada. While the city of Toronto is awash with crime, hitherto unknown, the Star warbles about what a lovely, clean, loving group all of its citizens are. This might well be true, certainly to a great extent. What they dont say is the down side of multi-culture(thread closed anyone)?

How about controlling our OWN borders? In the Clinton years that was laughed at. It's about time to get back to basics.
