Untold sites sprang up immediately after the disasters, providing a means for families and friends to determine the status of people in the explosion areas and giving the entire population chat rooms where they could vent their emotions.

After Tuesday's deadly terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, students at Denver's Rocky Mountain Hebrew Academy gradually left classes and made their way home to watch hours of TV coverage. They also found unexpected solace in a program they'd joined just last week: an international e-mail network for children affected by terrorism, known as Kids for Kids.
