Deborah Chapin (Born in Fort Collins, Colorado – January 1954) first began exhibiting in November of 1982 at the Grand Central Galleries in New York. Since that time Ms. Chapin's works have been included in more than 40 Museum and Gallery exhibits including the Louvre, Grand Palais in Paris; RJ Schaffer Museum; Colorado Historical Museum; National Arts Club; the Audubon and American Embassies world wide. Her works have been acquired by the CEO's of corporations such as the John Nuveen Company, Federal Reserve Bank, Jewett Inc., Pardoe Properties among others. She has had over 12 solo exhibitions in museums and galleries in New York; Washington DC; California and Connecticut. Group exhibitions have included the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts, Salon des Independants, Mystic Internationals and Invitational, and National Art Club exhibitions to name a few. Recently her marines have been selected for inclusion in the "Ketterer Marine Exhibition/Auction" in Hamburg. The exhibition represents 17th - 20th paintings in the marine genre. Also her works were selected to exhibition in the California Art Club Spring Salon.

Deborah Chapin has been selected a signature/artist member of the following organizations: National Arts Club, Societe Nationale Des Beaux Arts, Artist Fellowship, Artist of America, American Artists Professional League, California Art Club, Southern Vermont Art Center and American Society of Marine Artists.

She has been a leader in the plein air painting genre and recently founded the Professional plein air Painters group. Her biographies have been included in the Allgemeines Kunstlerlexikon* (56 Vol Dictionary of Artists), which is the standard for reference of Museum's worldwide; Dictionary of Sea Painters, book by Edward Archibald, London; Yacht Portraits, book published by Sheridan Press/Overseas Press, Milan, IT and in the 24th edition of Who's Who in American Art. She has written articles for the American Artist Magazine and interviewed by US Art, Chesapeake Bay Magazine etc.


Recently she studied at the National Academy with Raymond Kinstler in a master class, earlier with Harry Shokler (Vermont Artist who invented serigraphs), and Mary Ekroos. She apprenticed through critiques of her oils for several years. She also studied sculpture with Martine Vaugel who taught at the NY Academy. It was an exercise and she learned a great deal about the figure but prefers painting to sculpture. In order to maximize her efforts during the sojourns to France, she completed three years of the USDA graduate studies language program. She gives Classes in plein air painting.and recently published a handbook on plein air painting entitiled "Capturing Life and Movement en Plein Air". She has a BS degree from MWC/UVA in 1976 and graduate studies certificate in French Studies.
