1. What kind of game is Dune Generations
Dune Generations is a real time strategy game in which the main feature is playing via the Internet in a permanent and massive multi-player world. Much more than a simple RTS, Dune Generations offers control over a Dynasty in Frank Herbert's universe.

2. So what is the objective of the game ?
Each player is given control of a family which he will guide over time, the aim of the game being to become the most powerful family in the Universe and thus to gain control of THE planet: Arrakis, also known as DUNE.

3. Will there be a ranking system ?
Yes, of course. The most powerful families will be ranked and known by all the players. Each month, that is to say 50 years in the game, the most powerful player will receive control over Arrakis. Will he manage to retain his power over this planet? Will he manage to endure the pressure from other players and the Emperor?

4. Are there different types of families ?
There are three types which offer three different game styles. The player chooses his family type at the beginning of the game. The trader family offers a game more oriented towards commercial strategy and resource management. The soldier family will focus more on military power. As for the third family, the mercenaries, it is mainly based on action and battles. A trader player who does not wish to manage his battles can choose to approach a mercenary player and pay him to defend his interests.

5. How will the players communicate ?
A "chat" system allows any player to communicate in real time with any other player. The system of conquest and co-operation is fundamental in this game. We have designed the main part of the gameplay around the relationships between the players.

6. And the system requirements ?
For the moment, we recommend:
- Pentium II 300 MHZ
- 64 MB RAM
- Windows 95 , 98, 2000
- 16 MB 3D graphics accelerator card
- Internet connection required
- 300 MB free disk space

7. What will such a game cost ?
We haven't yet fixed a final price but we are anticipating a subscription system.

8. A game like this would require a sizeable production team ?
Indeed, we have a team of 50 people who have been working flat out on the game for several months.

9. So when will the game be released ?

We anticipate that release will take place in the last quarter of 2001, before the end of year celebrations. We look forward to receiving more questions and will answer them here regularly.

10. How many different types of units and structures are there?
There are around 40 units (spaceship, armoured vehicle...) and structures per house. Have a look on the making of. New ones will be added as the game progresses.

11.What type of resource management is in the game ?
The player's first mission is to master the natural resources of his very own home world. The mineral or agricultural assets at the player's disposal will vary according to what type of planet it is. The output from exploitation projects is determined by the amount of energy and labour put into them. The resulting yield can then be sold or used in the production of finished goods such as food, technology, chemicals and weapons.

12. Can you explain how the prestige points system works ?
Prestige points will be obtained by actions of war, trading or diplomacy (battles, resources management, spying missions and so on …). Prestige gained will accumulate and will allow players to gain levels in power. The more level you have, the more powerful you are.

13. How can player gain control of Arrakis and harvest the resource known as the Spice ?
Indeed, we have a team of 50 people who have been working flat out on the game for several months.

14. How many players will it support ?

It will support 20 000 players enrolled per server with an average of 2 000 players connected simultaneously.

Battles take place both in space and on the ground. To be more specific, they take place in three zones: on the planet, in the orbital zone and in the solar system transfer zone.

16) How will the game universe be animated?
The game-play has been designed such that upon the first hour of play, the player can always remain active to discover the Dune universe for himself. Throughout the game, numerous missions are presented to the player. These missions can either be political, commercial or military in nature. They can also consist of veritable scenic adventures. All these missions can be undertaken alone or as a group. There are also random unexpected events that can occur at any time.

17) How will the game's universe be regulated?
Various methods have been implemented to regulate the game. To begin, the NPC's, regulated by a sturdy and efficient AI, must allow to sanction against all infractions to the rules of the Imperium. Animator players and administrators will also be present to control the actions of the community. From a technical standpoint, security measures have also been adopted to limit all types of piracy.

A player can only control one family. He can however control the various family members within his dynasty (Leader, brothers, sisters, children etc.) as well as the companions (Doctor Suk, Mentat, Arms master etc.). A player is free to create another family on another server.

They can of course engage in battle but can also establish diplomatic relations: alliances, commercial agreements and even marriages are possible. They can thus create new bloodlines within their own dynasty.
