MATERIALS:

  • Columbia-Minerva LINSPUN (2 oz pull skeins): 1 skein each of 3 colors.
  • "Boye" or "Diana" Crochet Hook Size K.

GAUGE: 1 sc and one ch-1 space to 1"; 5 rows to 2".

Note: Hat is worked with 3 ends of yarn, (1 end of each color) held together.

___Row 1: Ch 2. Work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join at end of rows. Mark beg of each row.
___Row 2: 1 sc in first sc, ch 1, * 1 sc in next sc, ch 1, repeat from * around: 8 sc and 8 ch-1 spaces around.
___Row 3: 1 sc in first sc, ch 1, 1 sc in next ch 1 space, ch 1, * 1 sc in next sc, ch 1, 1 sc in next space, ch 1, repeat from * around: 16 sc and 16 spaces around.
___Row 4: Skip first sc, work 1 sc in next space, ch 1, * in next space work 1 sc, ch 1 and 1 sc for an inc, ch 1, 1 sc in next space, ch 1, repeat from * to last space, 1 sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in last space, ch 1: 24 sc and 24 ch 1 spaces or 24 pats around.
___Row 5: Skip first sc, * work 1 sc in next space, ch 1, repeat from * around.
___Row 6: Repeat Row 5.
___Row 7: Work in sc and ch 1 pat increasing 3 pats evenly spaced around: 27 pats. Work 1 row on the 27 pats.
___Row 9: Work in pat increasing 2 pats evenly spaced around: 29 pats. Work 8 rows on the 29 pats. Join with a sl st. Fasten off.

___BRAID TRIM: With 24 strands of each color make a braid about 40" long. Leaving about 8-1/2" of braid free for knot, sew braid to lower edge of hat, leaving about 8-1/2" free at other end. Knot tog the free ends and sew in place.
