Australian Bureau of Statistics This is the Australian Bureau of Statistics site. Lots of interesting facts and figures about Australia.
South East Water Ltd Lots of interesting information about water and water management.
Australian Government Learn about the government and its structure.
news.com.au An Australian newspaper site.
The AgeThe Age, a Melbourne newspaper.
Opportunities in ESL - Theme Based Pages A great starting point for advanced students to research topics of interest. It has links based on themes. For example students researching issues like abortion, business ethics, human rights, the death penalty and tobacco can get links to discussions on these issues. Lots of other issues are explored too.
Australian Indexes A site with lots of links that can be used for research purposes. You can even do a jobsearch.
Environment Australia The environment. Learn about meteorology. Look at biodiversity or read about the plight of our Aussie animals.
The Why Files A wonderful, wonderful site for science topics presented in a readable and interesting way.
History of the Internet and the World Wide Web. A basic history of the Web with links to other pages.

 Dave's ESL Cafe This is one of the best known ESL sites. It is Dave's ESL cafe. It has lots of interesting bits and pieces. The slang page is extensive and is interesting to visit.
The TEFL Farm The Farm has a range of interesting materials including interviews and teaching tips. The site is designed for ESL teachers.
Bill Daly's HomepageThis page is based in Melbourne at the Victorian University of Technology. It's got lots and lots of great ESL & Literacy links. Make sure that you scroll down to see all of the categories.
Randall's ESL Cyber Listening LabYou need Real Audio to be able to use this page effectively. There are lots of listening and sound discrimination exercises.
Horoscope A site to read your horoscope. A bit of fun.
Song Lyrics A great site. You can find the lyrics for lots of songs. A great classroom resource or great to just wander through in search of the lyrics to your favourite song.
WWW Newspapers An index of newspapers on the web. You'll find newspapers from around the world.
Bangkok Post Educational Services A wonderful site with all sorts of goodies for teachers and students to use in the classroom.
Tongue Twisters A challenging site chock full of shockingly silly tongue twisters.

La Trobe Uni SL Lists This site is for TEACHERS to get their students on to lists. It is a great site for getting onto student email lists on topics as varied as business, movies, sport and general discussions.
A site to find penpals.Find a penpal for one person or for a class.
schmooze A great place to chat and make friends from around the world. You have to have a telnet or 'moo' program on your computer to go to this site.
moo Much like schmooze except that it is also used by teachers and students not involved with ESL.

Hints on Using the Net
How to write email A great piece on how email writing is different to other forms of writing. At the end there is a useful summary.
Emoticons A basic tutorial on using emoticons.
Using Emoticons You can learn all about emoticons (little signs and symbols). They are used in email and on-line chat. When you finish the page, click on next to see more.
Netiquette Quiz A great little quiz to teach/test you. You get immediate feedback on whether your answers are correct.
Evaluating Web Sources - Compare the Pairs This site has links to pairs of sites which on the face of it would appear to be the same, but they are different. This is where evaluation skills come in.
