S'tasik, he was supposed to answer the question!

(you're correct)

The other question for voidwar is "What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow" although the answer to that one can be found on these froums.

There are muslims of all races. This is what must change. Its a hateful primitive ideology. How would the eradication of Islam be any different than the eradication of human sacrifice? Humans have cleaned house and taken out the trash regarding spiritual matters before, and I say its high time to do it again. Down With Islam !! Muslims, swear off your addiction to evil!!

And yes we can nuke people. We have.

Islam has picked a fight with Freedom, and its thunderdome baby. Two mindsets enter, one mindset leaves.

Voidwar:

Go take your racial bigotry elsewhere.

This world has enough problems without people screaming to eradicate entire religous groups. It is genocide, there is no way around it. You cannot hold every person that belongs to a religion responsible for the actions of a few. It is not bad enough that we have to deal with the suffering of this tragedy, but now we must add to this idiotic hatred?

Countless religions/nations/societies throughout history have been responsible for attrocities. If we go by your logic, we may as well nuke the whole fucking planet.

Void...

From your post "Time to Kill the Taliban," I get the feeling that you are an anti-Muslim fanatic who wants to go lynch everybody that wakes up and looks towards Mecca.

And lose the sig. Please.

And yet, I can't help but echo the sentiments of a WWII veteran who says: "We must all come together like we did in '41."

That's the only way our country will come out of all this with its principles intact. And yet this stays stuck in my mind...and will stay there for the rest of my life...

In defense of the intelligence agencies...

If I posted here "Hey guys, what if some group simultaneously hijacked four airliners and slammed them into some key buildings"... what would most of you have said?

"Dude, you've seen Die Hard one too many times!"

Knowing that Bin Ladin is planning something "unprecedented" is one thing. Guessing that he intends something of this magnitude is something else entirely.

As for Palestinians dancing in the streets...

Step back and look at yourselves, how that ONE image has manipulated you into assuming that some Arabic power is behind this.

Now consider the power of a government run media on someone who wasn't raised to think for himself, to question authority.

Take the media with many large grains of salt.

As for retaliatory attacks... consider this:

Our country is the king of horror films. Every year half a dozen are spawned that find new ways to terrify movie-goers who WANT to be terrified.

Whoever perpetrated this deals in terror. They are also expert at protecting their own skin. You can bet they will not be in whatever city or country we bomb.

I say repay them in kind. Give them terror the like of which they've never seen. Let them think they've won this round. And spend the next six months or year carefully rounding them up. Make them disappear without a trace. Don't leak it to the media. Lock them up in a condemned section of Alcatraz, and "close it for repairs". And then let them spend the rest of their short lives being bombarded with every trick Hollywood has ever seen for inspiring terror.

Let their cohorts wonder what happened to them. Then, a year down the road, take them out, and publicly, brutally, horrifically, terminate them. Make the death that William Wallace met in "Braveheart" seem tame.

Put it on pay-per-view, and send the proceeds directly to the families who lost members in this tragedy, as "werguild", they called it in medieval times.

Then send a videotape to every suspected US foe abroad.

They deal in terror. What is more terrifying than wondering every moment if you're going to be snatched from all you know, and spend time in Hell BEFORE you die?

Any unwashed fanatic can strap a bomb to himself. Let's show them REAL terror.

Hey, S., where are you getting these pics from? I'm trying to build a database of all pertinent information for my kids, so that later on, they can understand what exactly happened without getting caught up in a bunch of anti-(insert group here) rhetoric. I've got a few, but not a whole bunch.

BTW, dog, I'm glad to hear that random chance worked in you brother's favor today. Thank God he's alright.

sirgod, I'm deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your friend. If you do happen to get the chance to re-up into the Corps, I'm sure I just might get to meet up with you out here in the stumps.

Re: people dancing in the streets. Don't believe everything you see. Were people dancing in the streets because they were happy or because there was a TELEVISION CAMERA there for them to dance to?

I was watching BBC TV as an alternative to CNN and they were under the impression most places weren't reacting like we were seeing on television (i.e. there is no great celebration going on in Palestine or Eygpt.)

Duly noted...

I mean to say that if this is true...and I feel confident that there are cases that it has been true in the past and that it is true now...it's just sick. Totally reprehensible. I'm sure you agree.

I'm not a gullible hump that believes everything the media reports. I'm a college educated individual who graduated cum laude with a degree in political science (emphasis on international relations and foreign and defense policy). I studied many of these types of things in-depth. Foreign affairs has alsways been a hobby of mine and I feel reasonably well-educated on the issues.

Isn't it ironic that of the three major religions to come out of the middle east, all three have a common core belief system?

Isn't it ironic that belief systems that all portray a loving, tolerant, forgiving (if vengeful) god have all given rise to some of the most horrendous incidents in history?

Isn't it ironic that to this day, these religions, and those they have spawned, are at the root of nearly all our worlds major conflicts?

I guess we should just declare war on all religions, and make everyone recant their faith, huh?

My family and I extend our thoughts and prayers to all Americans in this time of tragedy. We have placed our American flag outside our home at half mast. Furthermore, due to the blood shortage in my area of the country and the inability of inbound air traffic until noon EST tomorrow; my wife and I have donated a gallon of blood each to Lifeblood to help the best way we can. I urge the community and their families to help one another get through this crisis.

P.S. I never thought I would see the day that the largest FedEx hub in the world closed completely down.

Nuclear weapons are never an acceptable alternative.
I understand and echo the outright rage at this attack against so many people, in fact ive just gotten into contact with my aunt that works at the world trade center. She just barley escaped with her life. She had to run down 80 flights of stairs, her friend had decided to stay behind until the stairwells cleared up a little. Her friend never made it. She joined the thousands crushed and burned in the trade center, pentagon, and hijacked aircraft.

America has been struck at its great political, and financial centers.

Anger, rage, confusion.

What do they breed?

Quick, decisive action. But will this action be justice? After the rage dies down, and when the smoke clears. Will we be responsible for the innocent murder of hundreds of people too?

We can turn the whole world into a smoking cinder. We can vaporize an entire population 1,000 times over. When the deed is done, when brutal and angry mob justice has prevailed...can we live with the consequences?

Preserve the innocent, punish the guilty.

"We search for the truth
We seek justice
The courts require it
The victims cry for it
And GOD demmands it!"

Oklahoma city, 1995 Search team 5

Justice without mercy is not justice
Justice without restraint is barbarism

We will mourn our dead, we will find those responsible. However, we will not degrade ourselves to the level of those that would take life without reason or pause.

E3, not surprised they had those guys in the air. Actually, I would have expected one to be near Air Force one (was probably within range of it at the time).

They're probably up there searching for aircraft in violation of the clearing of airspace. The boom was probably that F16 using its afterburner to catch up with the E3 and escorts.

Heh, why the F-16? Get some Tomcats and Eagles up there and start smacking things. The F-14 mounts the deadly Phoenix (kill that son of a bitch 90 miles out) and the F-15 is the best interceptor in the world.

An AWACS wouldn't hurt, either, and while you're at it, how about an escort screen of F/A-18s also?

Well, calling for the death of all people of one faith, particularly when a person does not understand the religion, is idiotic. (Or is that hitlerific?)

There are roughly 1.2 BILLION Islamic people in the world. That's about 1/6th of the world's population! Again idiotic.

I agree though. This isn't the thread to discuss idiotic posters.

An AWACS wouldn't hurt, either, and while you're at it, how about an escort screen of F/A-18s also?

F-14s and F/A-18s are naval aircraft. And the navy uses hawkeyes, not E3 sentries (which are based on 707s IIRC).

F-16 is the cheapest "advanced" (or rather, western) fighter in the world, and the F15 is one of the more expensive. The F-16 and the F-14 are both interceptors (although they can have other roles, like CAS), whereas the F-15s and F-18s are more like air superiority fighters. Difference is time on station and ordinance (not to mention cost of operation.).

Btw, this is all off the top of my head, from my knowledge by reading aviation week and playing a lot of Falcoln 4.0 (and even 3.0).

I guess I should not be surprised to see so many hawks on a wargame forum.

Please stop and think about what happened. Those who are physically responsible for these dispicable acts are dead. Did the the hijackers have parachutes? (I know they were probably pawns.)

Relax, this isn't an Islamic invasion. This is a criminal act. Let the authorities gather the evidence, indict, and bring those who orchestrated this crime to justice in a court of law. I hope America does not stoop to the terrorists' level and kill innocent people who happen to be the neighbor of some Taliban zealots with a Tomahawk missile in retribution.

Speaking of tomahawks...if Native Americans had an a-bomb in the 1800's, would they be justified in nuking New York for the disgraceful and cowardly acts of the U.S. military in "resettling" them?

Violence is not the answer. Violence is the reason.

Do any of you really think that Fundamentalist Islam is not the real enemy?

If we killed Bin Laden. . . wouldnt another come along ? Weren't there Islamic Fundamentalist terrorist attacks before Bin Laden?

If we invaded Afghanistan. . . does any one really think that would be the end of Fundamentalist Islamic terrorism?

We know it would not. Because the enemy in this war is not a nation, but a faith.

I know it is one of our most dearly held principles to respect others freedom of religion. But does a system of belief merit this respect if it causes all the oppression, hate, and mass murder that Fundamentalist Islam has?

Is the status of "religion" a license to kill? To maim? To enslave?

I submit that an organization that endorses things like killing infidels, maiming criminals, and enslaving and maiming females has crossed the line, and NO LONGER merits the protected status of "religion".

Do any of you really think that Fundamentalist Islam is not the real enemy?

We are a nation at war with a faith. It is a new challenge, but one we will overcome once we admit its nature.

It is time for the utter and systematic annihilation of terrorism-sponsoring nations.

Yes, I understand the scope of this statement.

Violence is the answer, since violence is all these vermin understand.

As hideous as this is; we have to make them pay. Let those who consider this conduct proper know that if it is done that they forfeit not only their life but the lives of everyone that they know and love. Make no mistake; this is war and if we try to fight a limited sanitary war it will fail. Make the repercussions of this so horrible that no one will dare try this ever again or we will lose even more than we have already lost today. The terrorists were not squeamish in their violence and so we have to show that neither are we.

Erm...I'm not dumbstruck in the sense that I never believed something like this could happen. Any intelligent person with any grasp of reality can figure that one out for themselves.

We're dumbstruck by the fact that it DID happen...TODAY...and it involved/affect MY family among MANY others.
