Chapter One

Taylor and Zac heard two people talking. They stopped and stood in the middle of the bike path to listen. "I can't believe you talked me into this! You know I can't rollerblade!"

"Yes you can! You just need some practice!"

"Yeah, look at you. Your skating backwards, instructing me, and you say I need practice! If we were dogs, I'd still be in obidiance school and you'd be a seeing eye dog or something."

"Well we aren't dogs! And you are not in obediance school! And I am not a seeing eye dog! We are humans and I am teaching you how to skate."

Just then, Taylor saw the back of a girls head over the edge of the hill. "Jenn! Look out!"

"What?!" Jenn turned around quickly, lost control, and sped down the hill, ramming into Taylor, and knocking him down. "Oops. Sorry."

"Oh my god! I can't stop!"

"The brake! Bree! It's on the back of the skate! Use it!"

It was too late. Bree lost the little comtrol she had and toppled onto Zac. "Oops."

"Bree! Where are you sunglasses?!"

"I don't know! I can't see!"

Jenn quickly found them. "Here." She put them on her friend.

"Thanks. I thought I was in trouble."

"Why?" Zac broke in.

"My eyes. One, they're perscription sunglasses, I can't see a thing without them. Two, my eyes are very light sensitive. If they're exposed to bright light without sunglasses I could go blind."

"Oh."

"We're really sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going. And Bree is, well..."

"I can't skate. At all."

"We heard you talking." Taylor said.

"What did you hear?"

"The part about obediance school."

"Oh... I didn't really mean any of it. She's right. We aren't dogs."

"I can see." Zac said.

"I wanna know one thing." Jenn started, "Why am I sitting on the ground next to Taylor Hanson?"

"Because you fell down the hill, knocked me down, fell on me, and then moved a little."

"Okay, why is my best friend sitting on Zac's lap?"

"She toppled off the hill and landed on him."

"Okay. Umm... Why are you here?"

"Skating."

"Okay... I... Umm... I..."

"Speechless?"

"Umm... Yeah. Help me, Bree."

"Uh... Uh... Uh..."

"Okay... Don't help. She usually not like this."

"I understand.""I think your friend is in shock." Zac said. "She hasn't moved."

"I can fix that." Jenn stood up. "Can you help me, Zac? Hold her up." He did. "I'm sorry Bree." She slapped Bree's cheek.

"What happened?"

"You zoned out for a minute there."

"Oh, thanks."

"Taylor, what time is it?"

"It's like 2 o' clock. Why?"

"We're late!"

"What?! Late!"

"What?" Zac asked.

"We were supposed to meet our friends at quarter to!"

"Oh! Jenn! They're gonna be so mad!"

"Come on, Bree!"

"I can't skate!"

"We can cut trough here! There aren't any hills!"

"Hey! Jenn. Are we still invited?" Taylor asked.

"Of course! But we have to hurry."

"Jenn, you go ahead and tell them we're here. I'll make my way, slowly. As quickly as possible."

"Okay. C'mon Taylor."

"I'll help her." Zac said.

"Thanks." Bree said.

Taylor and Jenn skated off quickly to where their friends were waiting. Jenn knew the rule. She was thankful they wanted to come. If they didn't, her and Bree would have been in trouble. "It's this way." She said.

"Why is this so important?" Taylor asked.

"If I told you, I'd be forced to kill you."

Taylor laughed.

*He doesn't realize that I'm telling the truth! It's a good thing, too.*

"Is that them?"

"Yeah, it is."

"Wait. Before we go over there, I have to tell you something. And ask you something too."

"What?"

"I have to tell you, I really like you. I don't know why. But I do. You're really cute.

"Thanks."

"And I need to know, do you like me? At all. Please tell me."

"I... I guess I like you too." She kissed his cheek.

Taylor was stunned. That was the last thing he expected.

"Come on." They skated up to the group. Nobody noticed them until they were really close.

"You're late. Where's Bree?"

"She's back there a little ways. I think she might have hurt her ankle or something. Or it might just be the fact that she can't skate. I'm sorry I'm late."

"You know the rule. Did you?"

"Yes. This is Taylor."

"Hi." he said.

"Hi." everyone said.

"Introduction, please Jenn."

"Okay. I already told you this is Taylor. Taylor that is Salem." She pointed to one person. Then she pointed to each one and said their name. "Alex. Annika. Katy. Katrina. Adam. Brooke. Jessie. Jake. Donna. And Kenny. Those are my friends." They all wore a pair of dark sunglasses.

"Nice to meet you." Donna said.

"Likewise."

"There's Bree." Jenn pointed.

Sure enough, there was Bree and Zac skating towards them.

"Hi, Bree!"

"Hi! Now I have to introduce him to everyone, right?"

"Right." Salem said.

Bree did the same as Jenn.

"Where's Max?"

"Must you ask?" Brooke inquired.

"No, I don't think I want to know anymore."

"Okay, enough chit-chat. You know the rules."

"Ready for us to go?"

"Yes."

"Okay, I go first.."

"No, I go first!."

"I'll flip a coin. Jenn, call it in the air."

"Heads!"

"It is tails."

"You win Bree. Who goes first?"

"Me."

"Thanks."

"Anybody have shoes I can wear?"

"Sure. Here." Annika gave Bree her shoes.

"Thank you." Bree took off her skates and put on Annika's shoes. "Come on Zac."

"Here." Salem handed her a pair of sunglasses.

"Thanks."

Bree lead Zac to a small building nearby. They went in. About three minutes later, Bree came out with a tray of glasses. All the glasses had something red in them. She gave one to everyone, except Taylor. They all drank the liquid and gave the glasses back to Bree. Then she went back to the building. About ten minutes after that, her and Zac both came out. Zac was wearing the sunglasses. "Okay, Jenn your turn." She gave her the shoes.

"Thank you. Come on Taylor."

"Okay."

Salem handed her a pair of sunglasses.

Taylor followed Jenn into the building. Once inside, Jenn took off her sunglasses and let her eyes adjust to the dim light. "Jenn, can you please tell me what is going on?"

"It's sort of an initiation. This won't take nearly as long as Zac's." Before she did anything, Jenn kissed him. "This won't hurt a bit." She smiled. Taylor saw her teeth.

*Fangs?! What the?!*

She opened her mouth and...

Taylor sat up in bed. *What a nightmare!* he thought. *I thought being on the road gave me weird dreams. But I'm home now. What on Earth is going on? I better get to sleep. I told Zac I'd go skating tomarrow with him.*
