Overseas flights to the US have been diverted to Canadian airports where they are being received and tightly screened by RCMP, as passengers are disembarked. All domestic Canadian flights have been cancelled as YVR, YYZ, YUL and YHZ prepare for arrivals through the afternoon from both Europe and Asia.

There is a possible hijacked flight from Asia is apparently just landed Whitehorse airport afte being escorted by CF-18 jets. Two KAL jets, passenger and cargo, but it is the passenger one that is subject of intense scrutiny. Canadian media is also calling for blood donors, presumably these doneations will be flown into NYC.

I was at the Toronto Film Festival screening since 8:30am. At noon, when our film concluded, a short announcement was made but none of us knew what was going on until we left the theatre. All events have been cancelled and we were beginning to piece together this horrific news. Many Americans up here, in shock, as were us all.

AA flight 11 on the 11th of September. Black September strikes again! Ben Lauden associate to have been sentenced in NYC tomorrow for involvement in two Embassy bombings in Africa.

Words cannot express the horror and emotions right now, of course, and I know we all send our condolences to all on board those flights and in the various target buildings.

This is indeed a new form of warfare, and this infamy shall join Pearl Harbour.

2 flight attendents were stabbed on AA11 according to a just announced report. an AA FA on board managed to reach AA flight centre to describe the assault on the cockpit.

Has anyone else heard of this:

According to a radio interview (yes I know it could be anyone) a female who stated she was a flight attendant with United told the following:

The entire crew went to have dinner at the hotel restaurant in Milan. Upon return to the rooms, their uniforms, ID badges, and passports were all gone.

Even the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles was shut down today!

---

International airlines scrambled to divert or cancel flights to the US after the wave of airborne terror attacks on NYC & Wash DC.

The cancellations and diversions caused widespread confusion and congestion at many European airports, where airlines ordered flights bound for the US to do U-turns or find alternative landing points outside America.

Yes, thanks! And another spokesperson, I can not recall if she was for the President or not, recently noted this as well. Yet the governor of NC in a briefing just reported that airports are closed for 48 hours.

Is it the FAA that ultimately decides these matters? I don't know!

Where did you hear about the announced report regarding the AA flight attendant who contacted the AA reach centre? Haven't heard it yet.

It was Bush's Press Secretary that announced that. I also heard about the Governor of NC announcing the 48 hours. How the heck he decides I don't know. I believe it will be a combination of FAA and NTSB.

Have you heard anything about my previous post re: stolen crew uniforms & ids? The flight attendant that did the interview said she HAD to remain anonymous as United did not want this news out. That is scary if true.

I would think that other agencies would have a lot of input into when to begin flying again. They will have to decide how to enhance security before any flights begin.

Building 7 at the WTC is still in flames and may well also collapse according to CNN. An so is another nearby building.

---

Most of the Battery Park area is still without power reportedly.

--

On the bright side, at least limited service has been restored to most train lines at this time.

PAX makes emergency cell call from bathroom...More news of the PIT UA crash from local PIT News:

757 Goes Down In Somerset County; No Survivors

Posted: 10:31 a.m. EDT September 11, 2001
Updated: 3:59 p.m. EDT September 11, 2001

PITTSBURGH -- A Boeing 757 passenger jet crashed in Somerset County, Pa., Tuesday morning.

An FBI official said that this appears to be an act of terrorism. No official confirmation has been made.

Officials at Somerset County Airport confirmed the crash occurred at a strip mine in Stonycreek Township, about 60 miles east of Pittsburgh. No survivors were reported by a UPMC Stat Medevac crew observing the scene. Officials have said that there were 38 passengers and seven crew members on board.

The Newark-to-San Francisco flight reportedly diverted its route near Pittsburgh and ignored calls from Pittsburgh International Airport controllers.

Rep. James Moran, D-Va., told the Associated Press after a Marine Corps briefing in Washington that Flight 93 was apparently intended for Camp David, the presidential retreat in the mountains of Maryland. The crash site was 85 miles northwest of Camp David.

Glen Cramer of Westmoreland County 911 told WTAE-TV that a call was received at about 9:58 a.m. that reported the plane was hijacked. The call originated from the cell phone of a man locked in the bathroom of United Flight 93.

The caller said that the plane had been hijacked, Cramer said.

An explosion was then heard. The crash was reported 10 to 15 minutes later.

The jet reportedly went down at approximately 10:20 a.m. near Indian Lake in Buckstown, Somerset County. It is approximately eight miles from Jennerstown, near Route 30. Click here for a map of the area.

The plane crashed into a wooded area. A witness told WTAE-TV's Paul Van Osdol that she saw a plane overhead. It made a high-pitched, screeching sound. The plane then made a sharp, 90-degree downward turn and crashed.

Another witness, Michael Merringer, said he was out on a mountain bike ride with his wife, Amy, about two miles from the crash site.

"(I) heard the engine gun two different times," he said. "(I) heard a loud bang and the windows of the houses all around rattled."

Merringer said he saw the smoke rising and he and his wire drove near the scene. "Everything was on fire and there were trees knocked down and there was a big hole in the ground," he said.

WTAE-TV's Marcie Cipriani was with part of a deep of reporters who were bused to the crash scene. From about one-fourth of a mile away from the scene, Cipriani said that a crater of about 8 to 10 feet deep was created by the crash.

Officials told Cipriani that it looked like the plane was headed south when it hit the ground. Most of the plane's debris kept traveling after the plane hit and landed in the woods past the mine.

For information, call the United Airlines hotline at 1-800-932-8555.

There is a blood shortage in New York City. People are asked to donate blood at their local centers to help alleviate the shortage. You can call 800-GIVE-LIFE to find the nearest blood donation center. Or you can call the Central Blood Bank at 866-366-6771 or the Red Cross at 412-263-3100 to donate.

Allegheny County has set up a rumor control hotline for people who are feeling anxious and need to talk to someone to find out the latest events. That number is 412-820-4300.

Just to add to the earlier requests for blood donations, the Red Cross (and others) can use your $$ donations as well. It is a shame that it takes a tragedy of this proportion to get us all together... but it is refreshing to see it happen.

I think it's very hard for me, living in White Plains. I'm 30 miles north of the WTC.

All inbound roads to the city are closed.
I feel helpless not being able to head in to the city to help.
It's frustrating for those of us that are so close, yet so far.

Please go give blood as soon as possible. YOU can make a difference.

Busses have started plying in NYC albeit only north of Houston Street. They are free of charge. Subway services are limited.
My wife is on an empty M4 headed uptown and says that traffic in the city is minimal.

Buses are plying free of charge, north of Houston Street. There is some subway service at this point in the city. Streets are empty. Doesn't feel like New York anymore. Will it ever?

On another note, a Saudia 747 from Rome to Jeddah made an emergency landing in Athens after a bomb scare. Nothing was found, however.

Speculation now is that the intense heat from the flames may have actually melted the metal support structure of the WTC towers, bringing them down.

Considering the incredible impact and all the fuel, it is perhaps astounding that they stood for as long as they did.
