ATTENTION WEBRING MEMBERS - EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!
by Chris W. Stark - Director

To all in the Gun Owners Alliance webring for a No-Compromise NRA:

Due to many undesirable changes that Yahoo! has made to the old webring server system that THOUSANDS rely upon, we have  decided to move our ring to http://www.ringsurf.com (this webring server is identical to the old webring.org that we all started with before Yahoo! took over). This means that if you plan on remaining in our webring, you will have to re-submit your site and information by using the form at:

http://www.goa-texas.org/webring/no-compromise.htm

The deadline for this move is 15 November 2000. After this, the old webring that is currently managed by Yahoo! will be destroyed and the new webring managed by ringsurf.com will take its place. You do not have to do anything if you are not planning on remaining within our coalition, for your membership will automatically expire on this date if you do not submit your site information again at:

http://www.goa-texas.org/webring/no-compromise.htm

This may seem like a hassle, but think of the problems it presents me! I had to look for another ring server, and then test it. I then had to create the webring on their server. Now, I will have to process over 100 renewals from old members by 15 November 2000, and keep up with the new members. So don't worry. Your inconvenience is minimal in comparison to mine. But there is a very good reason to go through this!

I have already shared some of the problems with the new Yahoo! integration of the old webring.org server. Here are some of the problems:

1) Mandatory usage of cookies on their server. This is the "peeping tom" of the Internet, for once a cookie is set on your hard drive, then you can be monitored by Yahoo! and they will know what sites you visit and when. I have a real problem with this intrusive behavior by Yahoo!

2) Yahoo! now feels that each and every ringmaster and ring member needs to have a Yahoo! ID. I honestly can't see why this is necessary other than the fact it will benefit Yahoo! This ring and others have grown and functioned in the past without needing a Yahoo! ID. I will not be prey to Yahoo!'s marketing tactics.

3) Heavy congested servers that are exceedingly slow. It takes forever to even log on and view the webring's, IF the Yahoo! server is even working!

4) Many helpful Ringmaster functions have been done away with.

5) Changing the graphics of how anyone's webring should look. I would have thought that Yahoo! would have allowed for the existing HTML coding for navigation to be used for the new accounts after 05 September 2000, when Yahoo took over the management of all webring's. Many of us webring masters had spent some time in developing the "look" we wanted to use to represent our webring's, only for Yahoo to come around and change the look with a very bland navigation webring bar. NO THANKS.

Apparently, I am not alone in my feelings, for just the ringmasters and members I have talked to are jumping ship from Yahoo! to Ringsurf.com at an unbelievable pace. Just read what Ringsurf.com has reported:

September 17, 2000

Wow! Now that we've had a chance to catch our breath, let me start by thanking all of our new users for joining us here at RingSurf! We are very pleased to have you aboard! There have been over 1400 new rings created here at RingSurf in just the past 12 days, and an incredible 9000+ websites joining those rings. As a idea of the scale of this to us, it took 2 years (we acquired RingSurf in Aug 1998) to grow to 2,412 rings as of September 5th 2000. We expect to double that by the 19th of September...

-The RingSurf Team

I don't think it's a coincidence that this growth increase has happened when the Yahoo! merger with webring.com happened!!

Regardless, we at Gun Owners Alliance sincerely hope you merge over to ringsurf.com with us, for we sincerely want you as part of our coalition of no-compromise NRA members! Please tolerate this minor inconvenience and submit your information NOW by using the form at:

http://www.goa-texas.org/webring/no-compromise.htm

The good news is this. You will not have to add the eagle graphics, since the graphics are IDENTICAL for this transition. Just the URL routing and possibly your ID number will be different. Ringsurf. com is an identical webring server to the old webring.org!

REMEMBER! DEADLINE IS 15 NOVEMBER 2000 TO RE-SUBMIT YOUR SITE!!

Any questions? E-mail me!
