Toyota To Match Employee Contributions To American Red Cross
September 28, 2001 -- Torrance, CA -- Toyota announced today that, in addition
to a previously announced direct corporate contribution of $1 million, it will
match the contributions of its employees to the American Red Cross.
In response to relief efforts and humanitarian aid after the September 11th
attacks on the United States, Toyota established a special fund for the more
than 28,000 American Toyota employees who might wish to make a contribution.
Toyota and Lexus dealers across the country also have demonstrated their support
through contributions to the Red Cross.
This news follows the September 13th announcement that Toyota Motor Corporation
and its companies in the United States would make a $1-million contribution
to the American Red Cross in support of relief efforts. Other corporate support
has included offering the use of Toyota Logistics Services' seaport facilities
in Newark to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for any use deemed
necessary, as well as the use of vehicles and forklifts to emergency agencies.
Additionally Toyota's U.S. companies have announced that they will provide
differential pay and benefits for at least six months, and in some cases up
to one year, for any employee called to active duty with the National Guard
or Military Reserve units.
