Prince Dimitri Romanoff is the brother of Prince Nicholas Romanoff, Head of the Imperial House of Russia. He is an accomplished author whose works can be obtained from this site.

Prince Dimitri was born at Cap d'Antibes on the Côte d'Azur in Southern France. His family was exiled and lived with his paternal grandparents, the Grand Duke and Duchess Peter Nikolaievitch of Russia (the grandson of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia). Along with only a handful of Romanoffs, Prince Dimitri's immediate family escaped the fate of many of the more unfortunate grand dukes and princes of the Blood Imperial.

Life for the first ten years was spent amongst the extended family of Prince Dimitri's maternal Grandmother, Grand Duchess Peter, née Princess Militza of Montenegro. Not only had his late Majesty King Nicholas I of Montenegro, his heirs, and Court removed to Southern France, but also a sizable chunk of the émigré Russian community.

For a time Prince Dimitri and his brother lived at the Royal Palace in Rome, where their Aunt, Queen Elena of Italy, née Princess Elena of Montenegro, offered her exiled family sanctuary.

In 1960 Prince Dimitri settled in Denmark where he worked as a banker until his retirement in 1993. Since that time his energies have been devoted to the Romanoff Fund for Russia, a charitable fund providing relief and support to Russia and the Russian people; in particular to orphaned children.

This work means that Prince Dimitri and his wife Dorrit travel extensively throughout his homeland.

Prince Dimitri's long-time interest in numismatics have evolved into a study of medals and orders and their historical backgrounds, in particular those of Balkan countries. Prince Dimitri is a Knight of the Danish Order of Dannebrog and Montenegrin Order of St Peter (The Royal House Order).
