C.J. Fishman, of Fishman & Associates Inc., has been recognized by the city of Venice as a "Pillar of the Community." Fishman is a former president of the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce , a member of the Sertoma Club of Venice and a frequent emcee at community events.
Sarasota chamber events

Englewood chamber events
The Englewood Area Chamber of Commerce has scheduled three events for March.

Business of the Year
Nominations for the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards are due by March 16.
The program, which is in its 22nd year, recognizes businesses in four categories: businesses with one to five employees; businesses with six to 25 employees; businesses with more than 26 employees; and new businesses (in business more than one but no more than three years).
The awards luncheon will take place on May 30.

American Profile, a four-color weekly national magazine with regional editorial content for community newspaper readers, is the recipient of the 2000 Launch of the Year award presented by Dr. Samir Husni, a.k.a Mr. Magazine.
American Profile shares the honor with "O, The Oprah Magazine," the first time two magazines have split the honor in the award's 16-year history.
American Profile, which appears in the Venice Gondolier every Wednesday, showcases hometown America and its heroes.
The award is based on several criteria. In addition to innovation and impact, Husni looks at a magazine's relevancy to its intended market, publicity generated from its launch and its diversification and specialization.
Husni, a journalism professor at the University of Mississippi, reviewed 874 new launches for 2000.
FLAIR starts service
Florida Air Inc. (FLAIR), operating in cooperation with Harbor Air Inc., began intrastate air service Feb. 15 on a Sarasota-Fort Myers-Marathon-Florida Keys route flown four times a day.
The new commuter airline added a Sarasota-Tallahassee route on Feb. 19 and a Sarasota-Orlando-Jacksonville route on Feb. 22.
A Sarasota-Fort Lauderdale/Miami-Florida Keys route started on March 1. All of the routes are scheduled to be flown four times a day.
The chief executive officer of FLAIR is Rudi Dekkers, who also owns Huffman Aviation Inc. in Venice.
