Wells, a late-1800s novelist who wrote The Time Machine
and The War of the Worlds.
Janet Wilson, Wells' lawyer, is the name of Maeda's wife.
Martin Wells' assassination scene was filmed at the legendary
Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. It was in the pantry of the Ambassador
Hotel that Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated
by Sirhan Sirhan, following Kennedy's victory speech after the
California primary election of 1968. The hotel was also the home
of the infamous nightclub, The Coconut Grove. The site of many
of the early Academy Award ceremonies, the Grove was where actresses
such as Joan Crawford, Carole Lombard and Loretta Young were reportedly
discovered while dancing. Although it is no longer a working hotel,
the Ambassador has become one of the most popular sites in Los
