When hate comes to town

In November 1995 Searchlight Educational Trust launched its biggest publication to date, When hate comes to town - Community Responses to Racism and Fascism.

The handbook has now been put on to the Internet, it is in the process of being updated so while, at the moment, some of the information is out of date much should still be a useful recourse in the fight against racism and fascism.

If you wish to purchase the handbook please see details below.

FORWARD

Searchlight has brought together all its experience of combating racism and fascism over the past 30 years to produce this unique and comprehensive handbook 'When hate comes to town - Community Responses to Racism and Fascism'. It will prove to be the essential reference book for defeating racist ideas and violence.

Searchlight believes it is community based self-organisation that is the best way to combat racism and fascism; to work with friends, colleagues and neighbours and unite in facing up to the threat of racism and fascism.

In this handbook you will find all the information that you and your organisation need to tackle racism in the community:

Background information on the history of racism and fascism in Britain and detailed information on who the racists are and what they believe.
Action points for almost all sectors of the community, including youth and education, trade unions and the workplace, football grounds and demonstrations.
Advice on how to use the law to stop racist activity.
Case histories of community self-defence with information on how community and religious organisations respond to racism and what statutory bodies, such as local councils, housing offices and the police, can do to help.
Resources and contacts. Detailed listings of organisations and materials that will help you to develop your community response to racism.

"To mobilise and enable community efforts to tackle racism, Searchlight has published a community handbook packed with information and ideas."
Focus, UNISON newspaper

"… the Searchlight Educational Trust has amassed a huge amount of information in an accessible and practical form. The handbook will be a valuable 'starter pack' for those who want to campaign against racism and fascism…"
