|Build your infrastructure the Luserland way
Today we're doing a transition with the Heroes & Villains weblog. It's a great site with a huge community, running in Manila. It started when we were offering open free hosting, and quickly came to top the charts. It's one of the highest flow sites on our servers, with a very large database, it grew to consume much of the resources of the machine it's running on, which in addition to hosting several hundred free Manila sites, also performs mission-critical functions for UserLand.
Critical systems and hundreds of websites on the same machine?
Altogether now ...

|Listen to Dave
If you've ever wondered what Dave sounds like here's your chance. This file is an MP3 recording of an interview Dave gave some time ago. The whole stoner/hippie/nice-jewish-boy image comes together quite well when you hear his voice.
|But we love Dave!!!!
Dave seems to think we hate him. Quite the contrary, we love Dave!!!
Just like he loves all the rest of the developers and folks that dare to speak the truth!!!
But as one loyal reader has noted, it does tend to look like a bloodsport now and then. Well, we'll take that to heart and see if we can't come up with some funnier things to say.
As always, we welcome your feedback, just e-mail us via firstname.lastname@example.org
|Faking the high road again!!!
As usual Dave fakes the high road:
And, as usual, he does a Dave and posts this:
A positive story about respect on the Web. We all know that some people don't like me. It's a fact. It was true before I started writing for the Web in 1994, but now many more people know me now, and a few dozen really don't like me, maybe more, I don't know. Anyway, a real flaming jerk whose name will never grace this page, posted my phone number to a public mail list of people who's common interest was hatred of me. Only that person called the number. In other words, there's a high level of civility and respect, even among people who don't like me, and who have said so publicly. Now don't get any ideas, send me an email if you have something to say, but thanks to everyone for being so respectful.
A post here was deleted because someone did the thing I praised everyone for not doing. Live and learn. Again and again. Oy.
If you want Dave's number just search for it, as he's the only Dave Winer listed for all of California. We're not suggesting you call Dave. It would appear most folks don't really care to suffer the experience of actually speaking with Dave anyway.
