SOMALI HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF NORTH AMERICA

SHASNA MediaWatch

BOSTON, MA

[August 10, 2001]

Week-in-Review

SHASNA MediaWatch department follows news analysis, trends, news reports and press releases of the week. We pay special attention to Somali news in general, and to the ‘ARTA CLAN’ in particular. We analyze, digest and separate facts from fiction. With so many news outlets and so many groups, each one vying for your attention, we will try our very best to fairly analyze what you have read or missed reading.

Bu’aale, Jilib, Kismayo, Baraawe & Environs, Somalia

And The Liberation War continues: The liberation struggle enters its eleventh year and will continue till all occupied land is liberated from the invaders. The indigenous Southern Somali tribes will slowly continue reclaiming their farms from Mogadishu Invaders. The UN pet project, the David Stephen Incorporated, a/k/a Arta Clan, funded with venture capital from the Arab world and sponsored by Egypt, the lead enforcer, whose sole purpose is to flame the Somali civil war and keep it flaming by legitimizing and legalizing the Arta sub-clan’s illegal occupation of tribal properties and farms, has dismally failed and their veil has been swiftly unveiled. And The Liberation War continues! D-day: Kismayo, Marka and Balidoogle!

Sadly, for Somalis everywhere and for all war torn societies, all UN and Arab donated funds and efforts to the ‘Arta Clan’ were NOT used to erect buildings, renovate highways, build wells, sanitize water, feed the hungry, or shelter the homeless; but in the latest incident, they were used for the following: In Kismayo, the Arta Sub-clan Militia, sponsored by the UN and Mr. David Stephens, has been confirmed to have massacred over 120 individuals, that number includes 33 children and nine elderly women (we will provide complete names and relatives at a later day.) The massacres continue unabated! This is in addition to this July’s massacres (see last week’s SHASNA Issue) in Baraawe and environs. Death and intentional debilitation were the consequences of those actions. Again, those funds and UN efforts are also being used to discredit and disrupt the "Northern Recovery Zones." Under the guise of peacemaking process, these UN and friends provided funds are also currently being unrelentingly tried to Turn Boosaaso, an oasis of stability and development, into yet another Mogadishu. And the UN and their persistent political officers remain shockingly silent! Is the UN for peace or instability in the Horn! We will again let the discriminating reader ponder about this!

It should also be noted, with particular attention, and almost a year later since the ‘Arta Clan’ inception, that this has been part of the daily menu in Mogadishu and Kismayo, and is being perpetuated by the arrival of the UN sponsored ARTA CLAN and their sub-clan militias. Since inception of this Arta Scam, the most fictitious entity since the days of Hitler/Stalin and the League of Nations, and whereby the ‘Arta Clan’ members seek to live at the expense of everyone else in Mogadishu and surroundings; Mogadishu and Kismayo residents have experienced nothing but daily contempt, Massacres, misery and economic degeneration. They have been inflicted with severe pains and have recently been exacerbated by well-known members of Mogadishu cliques who can all be traced back to the inside corridors of the TNG head honcho’s sub-clan and therefore directly to the ‘Arta Clan.’

Having that in mind, Somalis everywhere, in airwaves and in newsprints, are lately asking the following questions: Why have Sir Kieran Prendergast and Mr. David Stephens created this ‘Arta Clan’ monster? Do they know that they have been associated with a particular clan in Somalia’s many warring clans? Do they understand the ground reality in Somalia? Are these political officers for peace, prosperity and stability in Somalia? Why wouldn’t these political officers come clean and please explain their positions and the latest Somali developments in public? Or may be, there is nothing worthy to explain, since everything they have lately touched has been nothing but a dismal failure! We wouldn’t cross our fingers, but we shall wait and watch!

Nairobi, Kenya

IRIN – UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, a misnomer, should be appropriately renamed the UN Office for the Coordination of instability in East Africa! We still await their humanitarian reports dealing with the sad humanitarian affairs in Somalia! What was the last IRIN-East Africa report that dealt with the massacres, depredation, looting, rape and torture of Baraawe, Marka and Kismayo city residents? What was the last IRIN humanitarian report about the despicable human and human rights abuses and conditions in the city-state of Djibouti?

And to date, IRIN’s daily sinisterly brilliant journalistic alchemy also continues unabated. Their news fabrications and non-existing sources keep taking a life of their own. The Somalia the UN came to save, Allah forbid, may be taking a worse off turn than ever before. All credits due to the highly credible and peace loving UN political officers relaxing in their air-conditioned suites in Nairobi and New York.

And finally, there is no word yet from IRIN about the continuing tribal cleansings in the Kismayo, Baraawe area and environs! This is Sir Kieran Prendergast’s, Mr. David Stephen’s, Mr. Randolph Kent’s and Ms. Pat Bank’s UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs! Need we say any further!

Asides

The Hague – The war criminals who directed Siad Barre’s war against all Somalis, and headed by none other than Mr. AbdiQasim Salad Hassan and certain entourage in Hotel Ramadan, are also today directing other crimes against humanity: the current massacres in Baraawe and Kismayo. We hope the UN and their highly regarded political officers pay close attention to these devastating wars and heinous crimes against humanity committed by the Arta sub-clan. These men in Hotel Ramadan and many others, members of the UN pet project, got us where we are today. The UN should not only pay lip service to human rights abuses, but also should lead the way and show some action. Unless of course, as always, crimes against the Blackman and Africans in particular are not considered real crimes! We sincerely hope it ain’t so.

Dubai, UAE – The Arta Sub-clan Premier and entourage continue the clan’s shopping spree for weapons of massacre. They are also bleeding the Sheikhs to donate funds and weapons to protect the clan from the imminent invasion, you guessed it right again, of “Evil Ethiopia.” Apparently, the Arabs and the Arta Sub-clan can’t tell the difference between the Southern Somali landowners and Ethiopians in Addis Ababa!

Boosaaso, Puntland – With the blessings of the UN and Arab donated funds, lawlessness reigns in Boosaaso, an oasis of stability and development in the Northern Recovery Zone. Sir Kieran Prendergast, Mr. David Stephens and Mr. Randolph Kent there is the result of your brilliantly and flawlessly executed strategy! It will surely backfire, and the Northern Recovery Zone learning curve and foray into Western style democracy continues.

London, England – The sub-clan militia radio broadcasters and reporters at the BBC Somali Section and their reporters in Mogadishu are in full alert! Warning: don’t believe their news reports, as always, it is an outlet for the sub-clan fantasies.

TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS AND CONCERNED SOMALIS:

Thank you very much for your support in the ARENA OF IDEAS in these trying times. The true and tested hard working and devoted Somalis need leadership and unbiased information. We will try our very best to provide that. To other Somalis on the fence: the days of one clan forcefully dominating the other are over. If each one of us doesn’t clean his/her own house, nobody will clean it for us! For all the young men and women: don’t waste your time in this clan rubbish. Stay in school; we may need you someday. For the few who disagree, please be specific in where we err, if we do at all! For the despondent and futile diaspora, stay away from the Internet; it may be bad for your health!
