MATERIALS. Columbia-Minerva Nantuk 4-ply, 7 (8) 4-oz. -skeins Cranberry, main color (MC); 2 skeins each of Imperial Blue (B), Kelly Green (G) and, White (W). Crochet hook size G/6. (Or English size 9.) 20" neck zipper for jumpsuit; 22" separating zipper for skirt. One yard 1" elastic.
GAUGE: 10 sts = 3"; 5 rows = 2".
To Bind Off: At beg of row, ch 1, sl st loosely across specified number of sts; at end of row, leave specified number of sts unworked. To Dec 1 St: At beg of row, ch 2, draw up a lp in each of next 2 sts, (yo hook and. through 2 lps) twice, work in pat across; at end of row, work to last 2 sts, draw up a lp in each of next 2 sts, (yo and through 2 lps) twice. To Inc 1 St: Work 2 sts in same st. Note: Cut and join colors as needed. When changing colors, work ch 2 at end of row with new color.
STRIPE PATTERN FOR BODY: Working in hdc, work 1 row G, 1 row B, 2 rows MC, 4 rows W, 1 row B, 2 rows G, 1 row MC, 1 row W, 3 rows B, 4 rows G, 1 row W, 1 row B. Complete with MC. STRIPE PATTERN FOR SLEEVES: Work the 22 rows of stripe pattern same as for body, then work 3 rows MC, 2 rows B, 1 row W, 1 row G, 2 rows MC, 3 rows W, '4 rows B, 1 row G, 2 rows MC, 1 row G, 1 row B, 1 row MC, 2 rows G. If longer sleeve is necessary, repeat any desired color sequence. STRIPED PATTERN FOR SKIRT: Work 1 row B, 1 row W, 4 rows G, 3 rows B, 1 row W, 1 row MC, 2 rows G, 1 row B, 4 rows W, 2 rows MC, 1 row B, 1 row G. Complete with MC.
JUMPSUIT: RIGHT BACK: Beg at lower edge, with MC, ch 40 (42). Row 1 (right side): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across--38 (40) hdc. Mark end of row for center and crotch edge. (Note: On left back, mark beg of row for center and crotch edge.) Ch 2, turn each row. Row 2: Hdc in each hdc across, inc 1 st (see To Inc 1 St) at crotch edge--39 (41) hdc. Row 3: Repeat row 2--40 (42) hdc. Working in stripe pat (see Stripe Pattern For Body), work 2 rows even.
Shape Crotch: Keeping to stripe pat, bind off (see To Bind Off) 3 sts at crotch edge of next 2 rows--34 (36) hdc. Dec 1 st (see To Dec 1 St) each side of next row--32 (34) hdc. Dec 1 st at center edge of next 2 rows--30 (32) hdc. Work 3 rows even. Dec 1 st at center edge of next row--29 (31) hdc. Dec 1 st each side every 6th row 3 times--23 (25) hdc. Work 3 rows even. Dec 1 st at center edge of next row--22 (24) hdc. Work 1 row even. Dec 7 st at center edge of next row--21 (23) hdc. Work 4 rows even. Inc 1 st at side edge of next row--22 (24) hdc. Work 2 rows even. Inc 1 st at side edge of next row--23 (25) hdc. Work 1 row even. Inc 1 st at side edge of next row--24 (26) hdc. Shape Armhole: Bind off 3 sts at side edge of next row, 2 sts at same edge of next row. Dec 1 st at arm side of next 2 rows--17 (19) hdc. Work even until armhole measures 4" above first bound-off sts. Inc 1 st at arm side of next row--18 (20) hdc. Work even until armhole measures 6-1/2" (6-3/4") above first bound-off sts.
Shape Shoulder and Neck: Bind off 5 sts at neck edge of next row. Bind off 6 sts at shoulder edge, 2 sts at neck edge of next row. End off.
LEFT BACK: Work as for right back, noting changes and reversing shaping.
FRONT: Left Leg: Beg at lower edge, with MC, ch 44 (46). Row 1 (right side): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across--42 (44) hdc. Mark end of row for crotch and center edge. (Note: On right leg, mark beg of row for crotch and center edge.) Ch 2, turn each row. Rows 2 and 3: Hdc in each hdc across, inc 1 st at crotch edge--44 (46) hdc. Working in stripe pat, work 1 row even. Dec 1 st at side' edge of next row--43 (45) hdc.
Shape Crotch: Keeping to stripe pat, bind off 3 sts at crotch edge of next 2 rows--37 (39) hdc. Dec 1 st at crotch edge every row 3 times--34 (36) hdc. Work 2 rows even. Dec 1 st at side edge of next 2 rows--32 (34) hdc. Cut G.
Right Leg: Work same as for left leg, reversing shaping. End off.
Join Legs: Row 1: From right side, with MC, work across left leg; from right side, work across right leg--64 (68) hdc. Work 1 row even. Dec 1 st each side every row 7 times--50 (54) hdc. Work 1 row even. Dec 1 st each side. Work 5 rows. Dec 1 st each side of next row, then dec 1 st each side every 4th row twice--42 (46) hdc. Work 4 rows even. Inc 1 st each side every other row 4 times--50 (56) hdc. Work even until piece measures 21" from start or desired length to underarm. Check gauge; piece above last inc row should measure 15" (16-3/4") wide.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 3 sts each side of next row, then 2 sts each side of next row. Dec 1 st each side every row 3 times--34 (40) hdc. Work even until armhole measures 4-1/2" above first row of armhole shaping.
Shape Neck and Shoulders: Work 14 (16) hdc, drop yarn; sk next 6 (8) hdc, join another strand of MC in next st, ch 2, hdc in same st, finish row--14 (16) hdc each side. Working on both sides at once, with separate strands of MC, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge of next row, then dec 1 st each neck edge once--11 (13) hdc. Work even until armholes measure 6-1/2" (6-3/4") above first bound-off sts. Bind off 6 sts each arm side of next row. End off.
SLEEVES: Beg at lower edge, with MC, ch 31 (33). Row 1 (right side): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across--29 (31) hdc. Ch 2, turn each row. Work even for 2 rows. Work in stripe pat (see Stripe Pattern For Sleeves), inc 1 st each side every 6th row 5 times--39 (41) hdc. Work even until piece measures 17" from start or desired length to underarm. Check gauge; piece above last inc row should measure 11-3/4" (12-1/4") wide.
Shape Cap: Bind off 3 sts each side of next. row, then dec 1 st each side every row 11 (12) times--11 hdc: End off.
FINISHING: With backstitch (click here), sew shoulder seams; sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew leg seams, center front, crotch and back seam, leaving 20" back opening. Sew in zipper. Block (click here) to measurements. From right side, with W, work 1 row sc around neck edge.
SKIRT: Beg at waistline, with MC, ch 86 (94). Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across--84 (92) hdc. Ch 2, turn each row. Row 2: Hdc in each hdc across. Check gauge; piece should measure 25" (27-1/2") wide. Row 3: Hdc in each of next 20 (22) hdc, in 1 st in each of next 2 hdc, work 40 (44) hdc, inc 1 st in each of next 2 hdc, hdc in each of next 20 (22) hdc--4 hdc inc. Row 4: Work 1 row even. Row 5: Hdc in each of next 21 (23) hdc, inc 1 st in each of next 2 hdc, hdc in each of next 42 (46) hdc, inc 1 st in each of next 2 hdc, hdc in each of next 21 (23) hdc--4 hdc inc. Work 1 row even. Continue to inc 4 sts in this manner every other row 6 times, having 1 st more on each front and 2 sts more on back every inc row; at the same time, when piece measures 5" from start, work in stripe pat (see Stripe Pattern For Skirt)--116 (124) hdc. Keeping to stripe pat inc 4 sts evenly spaced across every 4th row until piece measures 35" from start or desired skirt length. End off.
FINISHING: Block skirt. Cut elastic to waist measurement; sew to upper edge of skirt. With separation of zipper at. waistline, sew in zipper; skirt zipper can be left open as high as desired.
