Sodaplay allows you to manipulate simple lines and dots to create sophisticated and witty 3D structures that act and look like living creatures. It also offers access to a virtual zoo of previously made models to play with and modify. The creatures walk and roll and slink across the screen in fluid, lifelike and often beautiful ways.

The depth of content that the BBC provides on its website is excellent and yet it is very easy to find whatever it is you're looking for. There is a good combination of facilities with feedback areas and discussion groups. The multi-language support was felt to be a good thing as the site is accessed throughout the world. There is a good balance between written reports and use of other media - audio and visual.

To condense a history of communications into an easily navigated and enjoyable package is no mean feat, and yet that is exactly what Marconi has accomplished. Simply the best video game implementation of playing football to date, ISS Pro Evolution 2 has the feel of the game just right. The graphical quality and technical implementation are superb, but ultimately it is the AI of your team and the opposition players that leave the player convinced they are playing the real sport.

This CD-ROM had the judges returning to it in every quiet moment throughout the judging session. It is beautiful to look at and wonderfully paced in its delivery. Unlike most interactive projects it encourages a leisurely rather than a frenetic form of interaction. It is simple yet compelling viewing.

A truly ground-breaking title which advances the art of interactive entertainment simultaneously on several fronts. The superb immersive 3D graphics offer rich animation and completely integrated with the intuitive user interface. Above all the game is intelligent, adapts to each user and eschews reliance on violence so common in the genre.

Format: Good music with strong use of the Japanese setting. The balance between ambient and dramatic tracks was nicely done, reflecting the gameplay well, with successful changes in style to match the onscreen action.

Conkerís great sound day. The audio delivers strong characterization and hilarity throughout. Both quality and quantity are amazing for the format, and not a sound seems out of place. The game is packed with memorable audio moments and demonstrates sound design flair all the way. Highly entertaining.

SSEYO have developed the most elegant of technologies - complex and subtle beneath the surface, yet jaw droppingly effective for the user. The vector audio technology was so good we literally had to ask "Play it again" and looked at the file sizes with disbelief. In the world of your pocket, size matters

Obviously addictive! Challenging but not difficult to use. Excellent use of graphics, especially considering the musical nature of the game. Combined all elements of new media very cleverly. Many levels to the game, each gradually increasing the interactivity and appeal.

The British Academy of Film and Television teamed up with Amazon.co.uk to sponsor the first-ever Audience Award at the 2001 Interactive Entertainment BAFTAs.
The winner of this award was chosen entirely by the public. Visitors to Amazon.co.uk were invited to vote in an online poll for their favourite PC or console game of the year. It was a close run, with Championship Manager, Black & White and Gran Turismo 3 as frontrunners.
