Polls get slightly more sane So it turns out that one coach had 7-12 Temple ranked in the top ten in the country, placing them into the 'others recieving votes' category. You have to wonder how often this type of thing occurs in slightly more subtle ways.

Turns out it was an assistant of Rick Majerus at Utah. This doesn't sound as subtle as it does stupid:

Majerus said his assistant knew how much Majerus admired Chaney, but wasn't aware of the Owls' 6-12 record at the time of the last week's vote.

East Coast bias in the West, perhaps? ;)

Heh. The link was originally just a detail-free AP wire; I didn't realize ESPN updated things in place. Now I know.

The polls have become such nonsense that I check them for pure amusement. Cincy #5? Yeah right. They'll get their asses beat in round 1 by an Oral Roberts-knock-off just like they do every year.

I personally think that preseason becomes too much of a fixation for the voters. Yeah, maybe they did go 8 and 0, but look at the strength of schedule.

Teams seem to grow much faster now than they have in the past.
