Ch Supt Phil ReadWelcome from
Divisional Commander
Ch Supt Phil Read

Welcome to Bradford North Division with its HQ at Javelin House, Eccleshill, and a second police station at Lawcroft House, Lilycroft Road, Bradford.

Policing is focused in the wards of: Idle, Eccleshill, Bolton, Heaton, Bradford Moor, Thornton, Queensbury, Toller, Clayton and parts of Great Horton and the parts of Shipley East and West to the South of Shipley Crag.

The new division incorporates parts of the former Toller Lane and Eccleshill Police divisions and serves a population of approximately 200,000 people.

Lawcroft HouseBradford North has a very diverse social and industrial population with a large percentage of people who have ethnic roots outside the UK in the Manningham, Bradford Moor and Undercliffe areas and then a mainly white population in the remainder.

The area is residential with pockets of farming, light industry and a number of out-of-town industrial and retail parks. The division houses the historic Manningham Mill.

Chief Superintendent Phil Read is Bradford North divisional commander.

He was born in Bradford and has lived in Bradford all his life. He has been in the police service since joining the cadets aged 16.

As a Superintendent he has worked in the West Yorkshire Police Headquarters Discipline & Complaints Department and for the last two years has been divisional commander at the former Toller Lane division.

Ch Supt Read has helped to improve race relations in the city and sits on the Bradford Minorities Police Liaison Committee.

He says community links are vital to effective policing and needed to be the kingpin to success in the future.

Ch Supt Read is on the board of the Manningham and Girlington SRB and Bradford Common Purpose.

"We have a good track record for policing here in Bradford and as divisional commander of the new Bradford North I intend to build on that good practice," he said. "The new structures present us with a positive opportunity to target burglars, people responsible car crime and those who continue to peddle misery through drug dealing."
