Ch Supt Phil Read
Welcome to Bradford North Division with its HQ at Javelin
House, Eccleshill, and a second police station at Lawcroft House,
Lilycroft Road, Bradford.
Policing is focused in the wards of: Idle, Eccleshill, Bolton,
Heaton, Bradford Moor, Thornton, Queensbury, Toller, Clayton and
parts of Great Horton and the parts of Shipley East and West to the
South of Shipley Crag.
The new division incorporates parts
of the former Toller Lane and Eccleshill Police divisions and serves
a population of approximately 200,000 people.
North has a very diverse social and industrial population with a
large percentage of people who have ethnic roots outside the UK in
the Manningham, Bradford Moor and Undercliffe areas and then a
mainly white population in the remainder.
The area is residential with
pockets of farming, light industry and a number of out-of-town
industrial and retail parks. The division houses the historic
Chief Superintendent Phil Read is
Bradford North divisional commander.
He was born in Bradford and has lived
in Bradford all his life. He has been in the police service since
joining the cadets aged 16.
As a Superintendent he has worked in
the West Yorkshire Police Headquarters Discipline & Complaints
Department and for the last two years has been divisional commander
at the former Toller Lane division.
Ch Supt Read has helped to improve
race relations in the city and sits on the Bradford Minorities
Police Liaison Committee.
He says community links are vital to
effective policing and needed to be the kingpin to success in the
Ch Supt Read is on the board of the
Manningham and Girlington SRB and Bradford Common Purpose.
"We have a good track record for
policing here in Bradford and as divisional commander of the new
Bradford North I intend to build on that good practice," he
said. "The new structures present us with a positive
opportunity to target burglars, people responsible car crime and
those who continue to peddle misery through drug dealing."
