Markuntsov has competed internationally with partner Valentina Raskazova, representing Russia. Best result:
1998 Grand Prix de St. Gervais, 4th. Kawaguchi/Markuntsov teamed up in 1999. Kawaguchi admired World
Pairs Champions Berezhnaya/Sikharulidze (RUS) and asked their coach Tamara Moskvina if she could become
a pair skater. Moskvina suggested Markuntsov as a partner. Kawaguchi/Markuntsov are the first pair from
Japan to medal at an ISU Championship (silver at the 2001 World Juniors).
