QUAKECON 2K2 DATES ANNOUNCED
id Software's Annual Gamer Festival
to Feature Quake III Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstein
MESQUITE, Texas - Feb. 19, 2002 - Prepare for the annual pilgrimage to the holiest spot in interactive entertainment, Mesquite, Texas, as id Software has announced the dates of QuakeCon 2K2. Set for Aug. 15 - 18, QuakeCon will be more intense than ever, as thousands of gamers descend on the Mesquite Convention Center and Exhibit Hall at the Hampton Inn, in Mesquite, Texas, to wage virtual war against 1,250 of their closest friends in the 35,000 square foot bring-your-own-computer (BYOC) LAN party, or compete in nerve-defying QuakeCon tournaments.
This year players can battle in two main-event tournaments; individual players will take to the hallowed halls of Quake III Arena for the definitive deathmatch frag-fest, while teams and clans will compete on the battlefields of id Software's newest team competition classic, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, PC Gamer's "2001 Multiplayer Game of the Year."
"The dates are set, mark your calendar for the biggest, baddest QuakeCon ever," Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software, said. "With Quake III Arena as the benchmark of multiplayer action and the addition of Return to Castle Wolfenstein with its team gameplay, players will have all they can handle."
QuakeCon is the definitive fan-based video game tournament, convention and party. Fans can track further event updates and get the latest information at www.quakecon.org.
"QuakeCon sets the standard for gaming events with four days of LAN-events, tournaments, exhibitor displays and conferences," John Carney, executive director, The QuakeCon Organization, said. "With id Software's continual support, including the addition of Return to Castle Wolfenstein to this year's event, and the dedication of our talented QuakeCon staff, QuakeCon 2K2 is shaping up to be the best event to date."
QuakeCon began in 1996 as a LAN party dedicated to fans of id Software's games and has grown to include QUAKE®, QUAKE II, QUAKE III Arena, QUAKE III: Team Arena and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It was created by gamers to join with online friends in real life, meet the makers of the games they crave, talk shop with industry veterans and compete with some of the best players in the world. The event enjoys continued success, growing from a small gathering of 150 players in 1996 to more than 3,000 in 2001.
