PBS station WEDU's 2 percent deficit was due in large part to a decline in corporate support. Corporations across the nation and in our local viewing area tightened their belts due to the recession, reducing or eliminating the corporate support given to WEDU for its local programming schedule and national productions. Despite our ability to contain expenses, declining income in combination with increased costs for insurance, interest expense, program rights and utilities, resulted in a deficit for the station.
