FIRST: this site is written and maintained in our spare time. We have no proofreading or editorial staff, which is quickly evident, and we appreciate readers who email us corrections. The site is meant to be entertaining. Some of the material is meant to be educational, too, namely the notes and features on grammar and usage. I’m no expert in this regard, and there’s a big difference between preaching from the mountain and shouting from the gutter.

Before you read any of the grammar essays, I encourage you to read this quick note about the series: Grammar.

The rest of the site is self-explanatory. There’s free wallpaper for your desktop (or your wall), products with our logo, peculiar vocabulary, and original writing. If you like the site, tell a friend. If you really like it, get a tattoo. Thanks for coming.

Dennis

DENNIS A. MAHONEY is the kind of guy you’d respect if he’d done something really impressive.

He was born and raised in Troy, NY, home of Uncle Sam and the 3rd largest cemetery in the United States.

When he was two, a waitress dropped a bowl of olive oil on his head.

His grammar school report cards graded students on “Desk Neatness.” He scored F’s.

Dennis has delivered newspapers, produced microfiche, filed routing slips, entered data, and worked as a TV researcher. He was a soda jerk for seven years. He rarely dated.

He is currently a copywriter for a publishing house in Westport, CT, the affluent community that drove Martha Stewart away with sticks and torches. For now, he likes his job. He lives elsewhere.

Dennis drinks coffee. He quits smoking twice a year. He is happily married. He favors green. He enjoys weather. He wears the same shoes every day.

He eats alone.

If you want to know more about Dennis, read I.D.
