Systems Launches InfiniBand Starter Kits|
King of Prussia,
PA - July 10, 2002 - InfiniCon Systems today announced the ISIS
Starter Kit Program to provide its ISIS Shared I/O System packaged with a
complete host environment to systems integrators, OEMs, and early
adopters of InfiniBand-enabled networks.
Scheduled for August 2002
shipment, InfiniCons ISIS Starter Kit is expected to be the first
commercially available shared I/O system based on InfiniBand architecture, a new
high-speed I/O switching fabric. InfiniCons ISIS architecture is a
multi-protocol connectivity system that uses InfiniBand as an enabling
technology. It provides an external pool of I/O resources that
Infiniband-capable servers can share to gain improved levels of connectivity and
throughput to/from storage and LAN/WAN networks, as well native InfiniBand
InfiniCons ISIS Starter Kit equips OEMS, software and hardware
developers, and early adopters with a full function InfiniBand, Ethernet, and
Fibre Channel I/O system that will make it simpler and more cost-effective to
engineer and exercise InfiniBand-based offerings for the next generation of
servers and peripherals. Each ISIS Starter Kit configuration provides access to
a fully-integrated 4x InfiniBand switched fabric, multiple 1Gigabit Ethernet and
2 Gigabit Fibre Channel ports, and a suite of advanced software features that
enable port sharing, diagnostics, and other capabilities to facilitate product
development and testing. In addition, Host Channel Adapters (HCAs) and
associated host environment support are being provided to ensure a complete
end-to-end solution for rapid deployment....InfiniCon Systems
InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) Selects
Network Appliance as Sponsoring Member
CA - May 28, 2002 - Network Appliance, Inc. today announced it has been
selected by the InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) steering
committee to be a sponsoring member of the IBTA.
highlights the company's ongoing commitment to develop and promote technology
standards that could fundamentally change the way network storage solutions
share, store, and access information.
Network Appliance has been developing technologies and storage
solutions that leverage the performance and flexibility of InfiniBand including
DAFS, a file access protocol developed by more than eighty member companies and
spearheaded by Network Appliance. DAFS technology was designed specifically to
utilize transport technologies like InfiniBand to dramatically increase data
availability, scalability, and flexibility across the network. This is
especially important for global enterprise users that must continually store and
rapidly access critical information including financial databases, manufacturing
blueprints, or satellite mapping images.

InfiniBand® Trade Association Adds Four
LAS VEGAS - May
8, 2002 - The InfiniBand Trade Association today announced that JNI
Corporation, Lane15 Software, Network Appliance and RedSwitch
Inc. have been elected as sponsoring members of the trade association.
The new sponsors will play an important role in the ongoing
development of InfiniBand architecture, an industry standard I/O technology that
will improve how servers are built, deployed and managed in data centers.
"The addition of four industry leaders to the Sponsoring
Membership roster underscores the breadth of development for InfiniBand
architecture," said Dr. Tom Bradicich, eServer Director of xSeries Server
Architecture and Technology, IBM and co-chair of the trade association's
Steering Committee. "The collective expertise of the new sponsors will
enable the trade association to continue its excellent history of development
and support of InfiniBand technology."
All four companies have proven track records as leaders in InfiniBand
architecture development. JNI Corporation, a leader in the Fibre Channel
industry, is augmenting its focus with InfiniBand architecture based storage
solutions. Lane15 Software, an InfiniBand technology focused enterprise, is one
of the primary vendors supplying fabric management solutions to the InfiniBand
industry. Network Appliance, a leading supplier of storage filers and
appliances, is the leading developer of the
DAFS protocol for InfiniBand
storage solutions. RedSwitch Inc., a leading vendor of switched fabric silicon
solutions, is one of the first vendors to deliver InfiniBand silicon products....InfiniBand
Trade Association profile
InfiniBand is an interconnect or I/O architecture
that connects servers with remote storage and networking devices, and other
servers. It can also be used inside servers for inter-processor communication.
InfiniBand is a channel-based, switched fabric, point-to-point interconnect,
which provides scalability and performance for a wide range of platforms and
price performance points.
InfiniBand provides a scalable performance
range of 500 MB/s to 6 GB/s per link, meeting the needs from entry level to
high-end enterprise systems.
