  Buy Now
The Apple Store offers convenient online ordering 24 hours a day, every day.
The DVI to ADC Adapter is a compact device that enables you to use Apple’s all-digital, flat-panel displays, including the stunning new 23-inch Cinema HD Display, with the new PowerBook G4 via its integrated Digital Visual Interface port. You can also use it to expand to a Dual-display ultra-wide desktop on a Power Mac G4. Offering more than just a physical connection between a DVI port and a digital ADC monitor, it’s been designed to maintain the digital integrity of the video signal to give you the ultimate pure digital experience. The adapter provides an all-digital signal path between your computer and the display. It features active components that regenerate both the digital graphics signal and the USB signal coming from the computer. This regeneration helps ensure the highest quality of the displayed image even at the extremely fast signal rates used by the Apple Cinema HD Display. A compact design enables the Apple DVI to ADC Adapter to fit easily on or under your desk. The Apple DVI to ADC Adapter comes with a power supply, power cord and a 2-meter DVI/USB cable.

Apple DVI to ADC Adapter FAQ

What is the Apple DVI to ADC Adapter and what can I do with it?
The Apple DVI to ADC Adapter is a simple and compact device that includes all you need for attaching an ADC-equipped Apple flat-panel display to a Digital Visual Interface (DVI) port. It consists of an integrated power supply with an AC wall cord and a Y cable that connects to both the DVI and USB ports on your PowerBook G4 or Power Mac G4 computer. The ADC connector on Apple flat-panel displays carries the digital graphics and USB signals and power through a single cable. The Apple DVI to ADC Adapter takes the digital graphics signal from the DVI connector (which is the same Transition Minimized Differential Signal, or TMDS, used in the ADC connector) and integrates it with the USB and power signals to enable an ADC monitor to work properly.

The Apple DVI to ADC Adapter allows you to connect an ADC-equipped Apple flat-panel display to a PowerBook or Power Mac with a (DVI) port. If you own a new PowerBook G4 with a DVI port, the adapter allows you to extend your onscreen workspace with an Apple flat-panel display. If you use a Power Mac G4 with an NVidia GeForce4 Ti graphics card, you can create an enormous onscreen workspace by attaching an additional Apple flat-panel display to the DVI port.

How do I connect an ADC-equipped Apple flat-panel display to my PowerBook using the Apple DVI to ADC Adapter?
Simply attach the adapter to the DVI and USB connectors on your PowerBook. Then attach your Apple display to the ADC connector on the adapter, and you’re ready to enjoy the pure-digital quality of an Apple flat-panel display.

What DVI ports and Apple displays are compatible with the Apple DVI to ADC Adapter?
View a list of compatible DVI ports below.

How do I attach a second ADC-equipped Apple flat-panel display to my Power Mac G4 using the Apple DVI to ADC Adapter?
Connect your first ADC-equipped Apple flat-panel display to your Power Mac G4 via the ADC connector. Use the Apple DVI to ADC Adapter to attach your second ADC display to the DVI port on the GeForce4 Ti graphics card. Simply attach the adapter to the DVI and USB connectors on your Power Mac, then attach the ADC cable of the Apple flat-panel display to the ADC port on the adapter.

What is the difference between Apple’s display adapters?
One way to tell the difference is to look at the adapters’ names. The name of the source (computer side) connector is listed first, followed by the name of the destination (display side) connector. Following is a description of each adapter’s function.

DVI to ADC adapter: allows ADC-equipped Apple flat-panel displays to work with PowerBook and Power Mac computers that have a DVI port

DVI to VGA adapter: allows VGA monitors and projectors to work with PowerBook and Power Mac computers that have a DVI port

ADC to DVI adapter: allows DVI-equipped Apple flat-panel displays to work with Power Mac computers that have an ADC port

Can I use the DVI to ADC Adapter to connect an Apple flat-panel display to an older PowerBook?
No. The Apple DVI to ADC Adapter, as the name implies, works only with a PowerBook or Power Mac with a DVI port. The new PowerBook G4 includes the DVI connector, but previous PowerBook systems used a VGA connector, which the new adapter does not support.
