What
is Advanced Fighting Fantasy.com?
The Advancedfightingfantasy.com website
has been designed and developed to fill a large void on the Internet.
An area to promote the works of the FF and AFF genre that have not
received the attention they deserve in the past, and deserve a new
look in the present and its future.
What
is the purpose of the AFF site?
Advanced Fighting Fantasy.com was conceived
as a way to re-build to Fighting Fantasy community and the gamebook
genre after what seems like a long hiatus. We wanted to create more
discussion of the game, create a new amateur FF and AFF community
hopefully one day re-juvinating the relaunch of the books to a new
audience. One of the strengths of the Internet is that a tremendous
amount of discussion can be generated by fans on anything and everything.
How
often is FightingFantasy.com updated?
Advanced Fighting Fantasy.com will be
updated on a regular basis at least two times a week and more so
when there is enough new material to warrant an update.
When
did AdvancedFightingFantasy.com launch?
The site is a very young. It was launched
in the last week of June in 2001.
Is
there an Advanced Fighting Fantasy Mailing List?
Yes. The Advanced Fighting Fantasy mailing
list is available to all visitors who subscribe to the Advanced
Fighting Fantasy Yahoo Forum. Once you have joined you will recieve
notifications on updates to the site along with new material. There
is no complicated application form and we require no information
other than your email address. Don't worry we will not be asking
any questions at all! All we do ask, is that you enjoy the Forum
and use it according to our rules and guidelines. Everyone is invited
to JOIN and enter discussions. Announcements will be made on the
Forum from myself as any deadlines pass by, discussion starts, and
major uploads to the site occur. You can join in (and drop out)
at any time.
What
is Fighting Fantasy and when was it created?
Fighting Fantasy is the title given
to a solo role-playing adventure game book series devised by Steve
Jackson and Ian Livingstone. The series appeared in the form of
a fantasy adventure gamebook which was known as The Warlock of Firetop
Mountain. The Warlock of Firetop Mountain which originally was to
be called the Magic Quest, was published in August 1982 and sold
out of its first print run of 20,000 copies in a matter of weeks.
Subsequent printings sold out even more quickly and with a hit on
their hands a series was commisioned. The books were unique at the
time for they allowed readers to decide the plot and events of the
book by providing the reader with various options along the story.
These options would then allow the reader to move to a different
area of the book in which to continue the story.
With a novel use of two dice, the book
was also turned into a game by forcing the reader/player to roll
dice to determine the outcome of certain encounters and events.
These dice were the pivotal heart of the FF game.
The Citadel of Chaos and Forest of Doom
were published in March 1983 and with strong sales, the series was
to grow from strength to strength.
How
do I participate in the site?
Anyone can participate in the sites
development by posting articles directly to us at our current email
address dave@advancedfightingfantasy.com
about any particular aspect of the site or the FF and AFF genre.
This can include small or lareg gamebook adventures from 50 to 400
or more paragraphs, reviews, solutions, maps, general articles about
anything to do with the FF or AFF game, puzzles, crosswords, new
rules, new monsters, new traps/tricks, anything...
I've
visited the site and have been inspired to write an amateur adventure
or review.
Excellent! Please have a go! We are
happy and willing to publish your work, simply post them to the
us. With reviews try to remember to mention any spoilers in your
review.
Is
there anything else?
The AFF site has one main subtle goal.
We want to rejuvinate the Fighting Fantasy game. We want to create
an area for fans and curious visitors to learn more about the FF
genre and create discussion with a growing community. If we succeed,
we will be the launchpad for a new era of FF and especially AFF
amateur works. The Advanced Fighting Fantasy site would like nothing
more than to provide visitors with a constant stream of new vibrant
information on everything related to Fighting Fantasy. I hope you
will be with us to see if that happens :-) Enjoy the site and the
community.
Are
there any other FF sites?

What has
previously been published for Fighting Fantasy and Advanced Fantasy
Roleplay?
There has been a plethora of information and material
for those of you who have come to know the Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks
and Advanced Fighting Fantasy Roleplay games through Penguin-Puffin
and soon Wizard Books re-release. To read about all of this material
check out the Gamebook Guides by clicking
here. Note: none of the non-english publications have been included
in these lists, since they will be merely of interest to those speaking
the language of the translation.
Will Fighting
Fantasy be republished in the future?
The new publication of the FF series will be relaunched
this August almost twenty years after the appearance of the series
with the Warlock of Firetop Mountain in 1982. Published by Wizard
Books, the Warlock of Firetop Mountain will be the first of the
new-look Gamebooks, followed by No.2 is Citadel of Chaos, 3 is Deathtrap
Dungeon, 4 Creature of Havoc, 5 City of Thieves and 6 Crypt of the
Sorcerer.
Assuming sales go well, No. 7 will be The Shamutanti
Hills as the Sorcery Epic is being absorbed into the main series.
