Second Friendly Match Between National Team and GENOVA LEX of Italy Updated

13 August 2002, Yap, Federated States of Micronesia -- The second of three friendly matches between the national menís football team of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and the Italian club team called Genova Lex was held today at the Yap State teamís practice field, due to the unplayable conditions at the Yap Sports Complex. While todayís match was conducted in the rain, the better field condition allowed for a more attractive brand of football from both sides. Despite the alternate location and heavy rain, there was an excellent turn out of enthusiastic supporters of both sides. Approximately 1,500 people were in attendance. Click here for more... 

Venue Update...

Due to excessive rain conditions, the 3rd Friendly Match between the FSM team and Genova Lex will be at the Yap State team practice field in Dinay, Rull on August 15, 2002. The match will begin at 4:00 PM. All are invited to attend and watch the competiton!

History of Football in the Federated States of Micronesia

Events 

  • The Micronesia Cup was held for the first time in July 1999. It was held in the newly created field in Yap. Three men's teams competed, including the Federated States of Micronesia national team, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas' national team and a club team called the Crusaders.   • The FSM Games were held in Yap, 22-31 July 2001. For the first time in the history of the games, football was included as a regular event. Three of the four states fielded men's teams. The states were Chuuk, Pohnpei and Yap. The games were played at the Yap State Soccer Field and were very exciting. Click here for more details.
