FORMER University of Tennessee defensive end DeAngelo Lloyd was the first player selected in the 2002 NFL Europe League free agent draft when he was picked by the Frankfurt Galaxy. He started all 10 games in his senior season and was chosen to play in the Hula Bowl, one of the year's major college all-star games.

With the second pick of the draft the Amsterdam Admirals selected former Louisiana State defensive end Mike Sutton, who posted 9 sacks for the Berlin Thunder in 2000 and 2.5 sacks for the Rhein Fire in 1999.

Among other first-round selections was running back Terry Battle, who returns to the F.C. Barcelona Dragons after leading the team with 444 rushing yards, including 4 touchdowns, in 2000. An interesting lower-round selection was the Scottish Claymores' seventh-round choice of quarterback Moses Moreno, who started three games for the San Diego Chargers in 1999.

NFL ALLOCATION UPDATE
Following the announcement of NFL player allocations, the following trade has taken place: Barcelona has traded T Terrence Simmons (Washington Redskins/Alabama State) to Frankfurt for G Stan Bennett (Chicago Bears/Villanova).

The following additional player has been allocated and assigned by the NFLEL office, bringing the total of allocated players to 255: F.C. Barcelona Dragons, T Mackai Freitas (Oakland Raiders/Arizona).

Completing the first round selections, the Berlin Thunder picked linebacker Jude Waddy, who played 27 games for the Green Bay Packers in 1998-99, starting eight times. Waddy's best year came in 1999 when he became a starter in mid-season and recorded 73 tackles, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble. During his two years in the NFL, Waddy recorded 85 total tackles, 2 sacks and a forced fumble.
