Husker Report, August 29

Crouch in Lincoln - Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch will be in Lincoln on Saturday to have his jersey retired during a halftime ceremony at the Troy State game. All-America offensive lineman Dominic Raiola also will have his jersey retired, but he won't be at the game because of a conflicting practice schedule with the Detroit Lions. Crouch will be in town because the St. Louis Rams are in Kansas City this weekend. "It's great to have him back," Coach Frank Solich said.

Solich denies rumor - Solich bristled over a question after Thursday's practice about Thunder Collins' status. Rumors had been circulating around Lincoln that the senior I-back had been suspended. "There's nothing that I have done with Thunder or anybody else on this football team at this point," Solich said. "I'm not quite sure where all that is coming from." When asked if Collins, a co-No. 1 on the depth chart, was playing this weekend, Solich said, "Well, I hope so. I hope everybody is playing on Saturday."

Lindstrom's surgery - Also Thursday, free safety Brett Lindstrom had surgery on his right foot. Lindstrom, a former quarterback, is out of the hospital, but Solich said he's unsure when the junior from Millard West will return.

Special-team work - The Huskers practiced for two hours at Memorial Stadium on Thursday, working on special teams as they wrapped up preparations for Troy State. "The guys were in sweats, and they moved around pretty good," Solich said. "It went as usual for a Thursday practice." -Elizabeth Merrill
