SIDESHOW USA PRESENTS:

SUBDUE THE UNIVERSE -- Documentary -- Dir. James Taylor Video [5 mins.]

The video diary of a ragtag camera crew's journey to the 1996 New Hampshire Primaries where they seek out the scores of off-party candidates ignored or dismissed by the media, ranging from Vermin Supreme (who's running for Supreme Dictator of the World) to Hillary Michael Milko, self-proclaimed godson of Sir Edmund Hillary and alleged son-in-law to Chairman Mao.

PARANOIA -- Documentary -- Dir. Robert Edwards 16mm [23 mins.]

What's the line between lunacy and healthy skepticism? Edwards interviews a dizzying array of conspiracy theorists, professional skeptics, flat-earth types and streetside crackpots who provide an unsettling portrait of our paranoid national psyche.

Rainbow Man still
THE RAINBOW MAN / JOHN 3:16 -- Documentary -- Dir. Sam Green 16mm [41 mins.]

Millions of Americans have seen Rollen Frederick Stewart, a.k.a. "Rainbow Man," who achieved notoriety during the late 1970's by appearing in the crowd at thousands of televised sporting events wearing his trademark rainbow-colored afro wig. Later -- after he became a born-again Christian -- he added a sign reading "John 3:16." Over the years, grabbing the attention of the media became an obsession for Stewart. He abandoned his home and marriage to roam the country living out of his car, studying TV Guide each week in a never-ending quest to stay televised.

Rollen Stewart is now serving three life sentences at the California Men's Colony near San Luis Obispo. In 1992 he took a hotel maid hostage at gunpoint, holding off police for hours and demanding a three-hour, televised press conference. He said the world was going to end in six days, and he needed to urge America to repent. The Rainbow Man / John 3:16 uses interviews, home movies, news footage and passages from Stewart's unpublished autobiography to tell the life story of a media-obsessed fame-junkie who might serve as a metaphor for fin-de-siecle America.
