Maaran

(Satyaraj, Seetha, Raghu, Santhoshi)

Satyaraj plays three different characters in his new film ‘Maaran’. And paired with him in one of the roles is Seetha who returns to films after a gap of 12 years. Incidentally, Seetha who had made her acting debut in Pandiarajan’s ‘Aanpaavam’, left films after getting married to Partibhan. Her last film was ‘Malluvetti Mainar’, and her hero was Satyaraj. Her come-back film too has her pairing with Saytaraj.

Playing the role of Satyaraj's son is debutant Raghu, son of actor-director Manivannan. Raghu is paired with Santhoshi, an actress of the small screen who is currently playing one of the leads in Agathyan’s ‘Kaadhal Samrajyam’. Sharat Babu, Hanifas, Devan, Pallavi, Delhi Ganesh, Raj Kapoor, Ilavarsu and Robert, brother of dancer-actress Alphonsa play the supporting roles.

‘Maaran’ is directed by A. Jawahar, who had apprenticed with directors Senthilnathan & Sunder C. This is his first film. While Deva composes the music, cinematography is by U.K.Senthilkumar, editing by Sai Illango, art by R.K.Nagu and stunt arrangements by Super Subbarayan.

The film is produced by Pankaj Mehta for Power Media and this is an action-oriented entertainer. At one level it depicts the turmoils in the life of a householder whose only ambition was to educate his son and see him get a good job. But his desires remain unfulfilled, his life is shattered by certain incidents. He directs his fury at his tormentors, and takes the law into his hands to teach them a lesson. At another level it centers round a convict who is sentenced to death. Raising their voice against the sentence of capital punishment and praying for his release is the students' community.

Raghu, who plays a college student, joins his friends and sings a song teasing the college girls. After testing various voices to suit the young hero, the director selected Silambarasan (actor and son of T. Rajender) to playback for the song. The song is to be picturised in Bangalore.

‘Maaran’ promises to be a different film and a challenging role for actor Satyaraj. Like the ones he had done in ‘Nooravathu Nall’ 'Nadigan' and 'Amaithipadai'.
