Famous People: Putting the Mac in McDonald's
by Dennis Sellers, dsellers@maccentral.com
March 15, 2000, 7:00 am ET

Larry Kendall wandered into a local McDonald's with his two children Saturday. He says the fast food joint had one of the slick new four-screen rear projection video menus that shows local scenery and promotional videos in addition to the menu. An employee was busy reprogramming it for the lunch crowd, using a remote control.

"As we received our food and were turning to leave, my 10-year-old son Paul pointed up to one of the screens," Kendall says. "Lo and behold, there was that familiar 'Welcome to Mac OS' face smiling down on us. Seems the whole thing is Mac-driven! Then again, what else would 'Mac' Donalds use?"

Okay, moving on, the 30th Anniversary Edition of "What Color is Your Parachute?" has the author Richard Nelson Bolles on the back cover next to a stack of all the former editions. In the background are two monitors, one of which is a flat panel Apple Studio Display, says Tim Stone.

Cruise on over to http://www.time.com/time/daily/special/photo/campaign2000/bradley/3.html, and you can see a shot of Senator Bob Kerrey working together with Bill Bradley on what appears to be an iBook. (Thanks to Magnus Nystedt for sending this our way.)

The cover of the new issue of "Boston" magazine shows an iMac DV with a tall, slender model sitting on it, according to several readers.

(If you've sent us an item for our Famous People column, please be patient. It will appear, but we've been swamped with entries. If you know of a famous person using the Mac, send it to Yours Truly at dsellers@maccentral.com. If you want credit for your "Mac spotting," be sure to include your full name.)
