This game's core idea is to intertwine its visual worlds and its music track. Idleness Growth Tables record your idle time and compare its growth to that of other users from all over the world. Your time grows onscreen in the form of a plant using timelapse imagery. The Bank of Time's use of 'interaction' is wonderfully ironic - the less you use your computer, the more your virtual garden grows.

There is a good combination of facilities with feedback areas and discussion groups. The multi-language support was felt to be a good thing as the site is accessed throughout the world. There is a good balance between written reports and use of other media - audio and visual.

Very up to the minute news with the site being updated every few minutes. A vast array of content and very strong archives which are easily accessible from the home page. The range of language support is massive, but one of the many reasons why the site is popular around the world.

Very well-designed site that is very easy to read, quick to update and yet manages an excellent depth of content. This site managed to extract relevant and varied aspects of this massive festival, capturing the spirit and magic of the Mela in very human terms through a mix of music, video clips, photographs - and even recipes for traditional Indian dishes. The use of graphic design was evocative and the careful selection of personal accounts effective.
MABO, THE NATIVE TITLE REVOLUTION

A Film Australia National Interest Program in association with Buona Notte productions and Tantamount Productions.

This CD-ROM and internet link-up is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in aboriginal or minority culture history. It links the story of the history of the aboriginal people, with the story of the man who campaigned for their rights and their land.

While the Java creatures this site features might not be everyone idea of entertainment the judges felt this was an innovative new forms that many find compelling.

The site is dedicated to showcasing the very best in British and European short films displaying them as high quality streaming video. The judges delivered the site provided a alternative distribution mechanism for work that might otherwise be hard to see.

Red Faction seems to have ignored the fashionable 'genre busting' objectives and instead has shot for solid gameplay, a compelling storyline, and great game enhancing barrier busting abilities (Geomod technology). All these elements combine into a superb and well rounded game that has gripped a great many people.
TONY HAWK'S PRO SKATER 2

This game takes the meaning of "what you see is what you get" to a new level. Just about everything in any one of a number of levels is fair game for a stunt. The interactivness is nearly limitless. The skater's repertoire is personal to that skater and the tricks range from ollies to handplants. It even has a park editor, so there are no bounds to the replayability.

In a time where product offerings were thin on the ground for the PS2, SSX reassured and steadied the boat. It has a rich colorful look (especially seeing as its set on snow) and a streetwise image. The gameplay combines a racing style with a flashy, trick driven point system. With the opportunity to upgrade boards and snow wear, aswell as being able to unlock new characters, there's plenty of features to keep your attention, SSX is an all-round great game.

The site provides information and advice as well as chat, reviews, games and shopping. Impressively, Dubit is written and produced for teenagers by teenagers.

Unlike most interactive projects it encourages a leisurely rather than a frenetic form of interaction. It is simple yet compelling viewing.
SUPER FURRY ANIMALS: RINGS AROUND THE WORLD

A simultaneous release with the audio-only CD, this is an ideal product for the televisual space that DVD addresses. The menu system and the supplementary material are all planned as visual entertainment, along with the song videos themselves, so as stand up to repeat viewings in the same way as the best music does. Sit back and watch again and again.

This one had the judges enthusing over both the innovative colour coded navigational structure, which reconfigures itself in response to your search criteria, and for the clarity and legibility of the individual entries. A pleasure to browse and a pleasure to read.

The judges particularly liked the navigation which allows rapid access to the comprehensive archive material from a number of dynamic menus. Not a site which expands the creative activity of the band into the interactive space, but as an information resource for U2 fans it is exemplary.

A truly ground-breaking title which advances the art of interactive entertainment simultaneously on several fronts. The superb immersive 3D graphics offer rich animation and completely integrated with the intuitive user interface. Above all the game is intelligent, adapts to each user and eschews reliance on violence so common in the genre.
DRIVER 2

This title takes the concepts pioneered in the original Driver to a new level. The cityscapes offer incredible detail and realism, the animation is horribly compelling and the narrative sequences have a cinematic quality with every shot and camera angle carefully considered. Above all the moving images are superbly integrated with the interaction and the user interface. Stunning.
FILMFOUR: HOTEL

Less instantly engaging than the other nominated titles, but a triumph of tight, innovative design. Hotel delivers a new approach to interactive viewing of broadband moving images that is engaging and offers real depth. The content itself is well produced, humorous and provides a useful perspective on the feature film around which the action revolves.

Conker’s great sound day. The audio delivers strong characterization and hilarity throughout. Both quality and quantity are amazing for the format, and not a sound seems out of place. Luxurious orchestral music and evocative ambient underscore provide an absorbing and believable backdrop to the impressive sound effects’ detail. Gun sounds are particularly good. The high impact arcade style effects work well, with the music style providing a cool counterpoint to the action and including some nice interactive tricks. Exhilarating.

An immersive and cohesive mix of audio elements create and develop a feeling of suspense which significantly enhances the gameplay experience. The spatial use of detailed sound cues works well, aiding navigation and decision making at every turn – all set against a backdrop full of tension. Spot effects detail is excellent and the sound delivers a palpable sense of danger. Gripping stuff.

Much has been written about this game and indeed there has been much hype too, but the technical innovation jury were in awe of the technology underpinning a unique player experience. Great games always leave competitors scratching their heads and asking "how did they do that?" but sadly all too often the question is also "why did they do that"? With Black and White but this time the leap forward was a genuine step change in what is possible and what is desirable.

Storage, processing power, bandwidth and more all conspire to make the beautiful sounds our computers are capable of elusive in our pocketable technology. SSEYO have developed the most elegant of technologies - complex and subtle beneath the surface, yet jaw droppingly effective for the user. The vector audio technology was so good we literally had to ask "Play it again" and looked at the file sizes with disbelief. In the world of your pocket, size matters.

Pure technical wizardry from operating system to onboard camera, AIBO needed to be lived with to be appreciated. Technology that pushes the boundaries of what is possible within the package of a consumer product is rarely so seductive, engaging or delightful. That AIBO was all these things is a tribute to the extraordinary technology underpinning it and, commendably, hidden from the user but accessible to those interested in extending its capability. Brilliant.

The jury delighted in this entrant. The underlying technology was complex, innovative and very, very straightforward to use. Indeed the jury's delight was in the technical complexity of what was achieved with astonishing simplicity for the user. The opportunities for personalisation of new media were legion and the jury never stopped smiling throughout our exploration of this innovative technology.

Very easy to use. Added genuine value to the TV programme. A good use of new media. Navigation was simple, but effective. Included voting options, straplines and quiz questions, all of which added depth to the broadcast.

Obviously addictive! Challenging but not difficult to use. Excellent use of graphics, especially considering the musical nature of the game. Combined all elements of new media very cleverly. Many levels to the game, each gradually increasing the interactivity and appeal.

A very innovative website. Brilliant use of new media - combining music, sound and graphics. Very fast with excellent interactivity, particularly via the 360 degree, high quality images. Intuitive navigation, despite being very unusual. Really sold the lifestyle concept, rather than simply a product.
