Lambert served as Assistant Director of Personnel, Bureau of Aeronautics - from Jan. 1946 to July 1947.

He studied at the General Line School Newport from July 1947 to July 1948.

Next, he commanded Air Group-15 in the Pacific for 18 months, where he flew the F8F Grumman Bearcat fighter.

Jets were coming, Korea lurked around the corner, and the Navy would soon need Lambert's vast experience at attacking ground targets with carrier-born aircraft.
