Welcome to the Almiraj Sufi & Islamic Study Centre

Nasihah

(an Arabic word for sincere advice. In the words of the Holy Prophet- May the Blessings of Allah be upon him and Peace - " A Deen [or religion] is sincere advice.")

Bismillah.  A discussion took place regarding the book - And the Sky Is Not the Limit - An Australian Woman's Spiritual Journey Within the Traditions.  One kind brother made the remark, "It's Tradition, not traditions."  He said this is because it's Islamic Tradition, so I said that it is Traditions because Islam as we know it now is the totality of experience that has been given to mankind through the ages from the time of man's existence.

That includes 124,000 Prophets and Messengers of Allah (God) - may the Blessings of Allah be upon them and Peace - and great Teachers from the Divine who came to show us the way of returning to the Source.  The essence of the message is basically the same throughout the ages but the method has been improved by each emissary, who we call a prophet and messenger of God.

For this reason, we will find if we look very carefully and seriously at this final message of Allah which was brought to us, humanity at large, by the great prophet of Allah, Muhammad - may the Blessings of Allah be upon him and Peace - that he demonstrated all aspects of the teaching on himself and showed others how to implement it and how to benefit at the highest level any human being could possibly achieve in this earthly realm.

This method of the great Master contains within it all the other traditions par excellence in the most simple and powerful way.  So if you say that some of this inner teaching belongs, is similar to, or looks like other traditions then we agree because all of this teaching comes from the same source.  The only difference being with regard to the last, is that it is the balanced method and the message and teaching, of the highest clarity, in regard to the Divinity and Unity of God.  The link which connects all the great Prophets is Divine Unity.  As the Prophet Muhammad - may the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him- said: "The best that I and the other Prophets before me brought, is La ilaha ill'Allah." There is no reality except One Reality.  There is no truth except One Truth.  The supremacy belongs to God and through Him we will be able to know and reach Him.

As far as we know, the message shows the best way to return and unite man within himself; as regards the Unity of Allah (God), He does not need our confirmation as this is imprinted in all creations especially human beings.  But at the mind and ego level, to deny or accept is man's problem.  As for Allah (God), He would like to see us in Unity voluntarily, of our own free will.  He likes to see us develop from what He wants to what He loves.  Because what He wants, as we said, no-one could escape it; but to be close to Allah we must make an effort in the proper manner as has been shown by the Prophet Muhammad- may the Blessings and Peace of Allah be upon him.

As the knowledge of the Ultimate Truth bestows upon the holder of such knowledge, peace, tranquillity and the assurance of what lies ahead, so the purpose of this book is to shed light on this teaching and to give the glad tidings to people who are disheartened, that the final message of Allah is final in the sense of descent but infinite in the sense of unfolding because the essence of the message is within the Essence.

So this glad tiding to humanity is in the completeness of this teaching and the fact that it is still so alive and fresh and unadulterated.  What is contained in the passages of this book are a few drops of the nectar of this teaching we call Tasawwuf, which is the Islamic Spiritual Psychological Study of the Self and Knowledge of Divinity (Mar'ifat ul-Nafs.)

We said a couple of drops of nectar, so like anything else, if one wishes to practise the method whic is described he has to do it with great respect, honour and dignity and be 110 percent sure that he will get great benefit from such spiritual work.  But, if he wants to go further he should know that the ego self, the nafs, will not let go until he has a living human being to trust and thus get the maximum benefit from the teaching.

So the next step is to find someone who could guide you and could continue this particular study and practice and lead you to a higher level of knowledge in a safe manner.  We recommend that one should read more books on the subject and find out more about the teaching because the teaching is alive and well and has barely opened itself to the future of humanity which so desperately needs it.

It is the responsibility of every man and woman to take stock of themselves.  Do not blame your parents, or your personality, or society, or your geographical location in this world, or your so-called karma or anybody else, for what you are.

The Merciful Allah (God) gave every man and woman the chance to undo what has been done through genuine exercise of determination to have the access to the ultimate realisation of the truth within yourself.

So, determined will is Allah's gift to you when you tune your will to the Will of Allah (God).  In a nutshell, when you learn the art of surrendering your will to Allah (God).

So, now is the time to decide my dear brothers and sisters, about your purpose in this life - are you going to be the problem or the solution to the modern all-pervasive world crisis?
One should look, without prejudice or preconceived ideas, and with the greatest respect, to the teaching of the greatest master of all ages, Muhammad Rasulullah- May the blessings of Allah be upon him and peace- because this teaching is one of the keys to the mystery of All (and Allah is our witness).

Sidi ‘Ali has many murids within Australia (particularly in Western Australia) and worldwide who maintain regular contact with him. He is also the spiritual director and a marriage celebrant of the Tasmanian Muslim Community.

Within Sufism why is so much emphasis placed on love of the Holy Prophet ?
(may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

The following talk given at the Almiraj Sufi & Islamic Study Centre will provide clarification.

Colour Your Life with Love for the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw)

by F. A. Murshid Ali ElSenossi

In the Name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful we begin and in Him we put our trust. All Praise is due to Allah (swt) and unlimited salutations upon our Prophet Muhammad (saw). Peace be upon you and the Mercy of Allah my dear brothers and sisters.

Allah (swt) teaches us in the Quran about the greatness and importance of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). Complete and total submission in Love to Rasul Allah (saw), is absolutely necessary to achieve success in the spiritual journey. Allah and His Angels continually send salutations upon the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) and we also should excel in giving salutations of peace and blessings upon him.

Allah (swt) addresses the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) in the text of the Quran, saying "Say to them : If you claim that you love Allah, then follow me. Then Allah will love you". In order to gain the love of Allah (swt), we must take the steps necessary to embody the love of our Prophet Muhammad (saw) to such an extent that it penetrates every atom of our being and colours our life, our thinking and our daily affairs. The Holy Prophet (saw) said "I have been sent to complete the etiquette (adab) and he also said ‘Your religion is conduct’. Part of religion is worship. You could compare worship (ibadah) to a tree and its’ fruit to conduct (muamalah). No one becomes a true believer until ones desires are in accordance with the wishes of the Holy Prophet. Here we need to examine ourselves thoroughly to see whether our desires and our actions are in accordance with the teaching of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw).

The  problems and upheavals in the modern world are unique. Every nation on the Earth is boiling over with difficulties. There are no easy solutions to all of these problems, but the solution is in the purity of the Islamic teaching and with Muslims who are awake and conscious of this responsibility. The book of Allah (swt) contains everything that we need. The mystery and enlightenment of the Quran are found within the Universal Man, the Holy Prophet (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
In the words of his beloved wife Aisha when she was questioned about his character and personality, answered with complete and total assurance" " The Holy Prophet was the embodiment of and a walking Quran".

The Quran and the Science of Prophethood together open the way for the seeker of Truth and men and women of higher awareness- they provide the answers that have eluded humanity for so long.

The perfect solution for humanity is found within the esoteric teaching and the Science of Prophethood within Islam. The teaching of Muhammad (saw) will once again come alive in all nations. Rasul Allah (saw) said ‘Islam will enter every house’. Not through television or other media, but through active teaching.

We must ask ourselves as Muslims - Do we really love the Prophet Muhammad more than our children, our businesses and our families? This is what is required from us if we truly desire success in this life and the life to come.

One of the Companions of the Prophet, Omar ibn al Khattab, said to him "Oh Rasul Allah, I love you more than anything except myself". Muhammad (saw) replied to him "Oh Omar, you cannot be a true believer until you love me more than yourself". Omar immediately replied "Oh Muhammad, then I love you more than anything, even my own self". At this, the Prophet laid his hands on Omar’s heart and said "Now; now you are a true believer".

Once you completely surrender to the love and teaching of Muhammad (saw), then you become a true believer, when this love permeates your very being, right down to your atoms - then - success is yours.

When we are physically ill, we go to the doctor. We follow his directions explicitly, to the minutest detail - even if it includes getting up in the night to take the prescribed medicine. When we are unwell, the regaining of our health becomes like a religion to us and we would go to the ends of the Earth if we had to.

However, when we open a book which contains the prescriptions of the Holy Prophet (saw) to cure our spiritual sickness, we are unable to hear or see. We say, Insha’Allah later on perhaps, when I’m older. We do not have a contract with Allah (swt) which states that we will live until we are 70 or 80 years old. We live our lives as if they will continue forever. In the time of the Prophet (saw), the Companions were concerned about their brothers if they went to sleep at night without writing their will and tucking it under their pillow. Their awareness of death was much higher than ours and they knew that they did not have a guarantee that they would wake up in the morning. Today, we don’t write wills, we take out life insurance ‘just in case’. Death seems so far removed from us, we rarely give it any thought. Until it comes to us suddenly and we begin to say "Oh Allah, send me back, so that I may do some good deeds".(as mentioned in the Holy Quran). Allah says "Alas,it is only a word that they say".

We don’t get a second chance, so the opportunity we are given in this life is very important. To be lucky enough to accept the message and then to become one of the ‘Mahdi’ (rightly guided ones) who will guide others to Allah is an enormous gift and blessing from Allah (swt).

There are so many different interpretations of the coming of the Mahdi and Christ. With everything there is the inner and the outer. One is the universal concept and one concerns us as individuals. What’s important for us on an inner level is the Hadith which says that the Dajjal (Anitchrist) will enter every town except for Mecca and Medina. Mecca and Medina are analogous to the Heart and the Spirit. The word Dajjal in Arabic means ‘to mislead’ or ‘the one who misleads’. In this case, the Antichrist is analogous to the Nafs (or lower self). There is no need to wait for the end of time for the Dajjal to come - take the opportunity to work on your own self, your ‘inner dajjal’ now.

In the writings concerning the end of time, it is also said that Gog and Magog will come out and drink all the water, and destroy a great part of the Earth. The Gog and Magog are representative of the bad thoughts which eat up all the good things that we think about Allah (swt).

So, the Anitichrist is your ego self, bad thoughts are your Gog and Magog and your Heart is the Mahdi. If your heart becomes surrendered to the teaching of Rasul Allah (saw), the Mahdi within you comes alive and becomes ‘the rightly guided one’.

Allah (swt) said "Neither My Heavens or My Earth contain Me, but the Heart of My believing slave contains Me" . If our heart is on the right track and headed in the right direction, then it will guide us to our destiny - which is nearness to Allah (swt).

My dear brothers and sisters, please remember that Allah (swt) gives us a great blessing when He places in our hearts love of the Quran and the certainty that the Quran is the Word of God. Our salvation is in the Quran. We must also understand that in order to reach the doors of the Quran, we must follow in the footsteps of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). We should set aside time in our daily lives not only for salutations upon the Prophet (saw), but to try and embody the life and etiquette of his message. He was the master of correct behaviour and a walking example of the Quran.

What the world needs today is proper conduct. The Prophet (saw) said that the time would come when an honest man would be very hard to find. In today’s society, honesty has all but disappeared.

What we need is a return to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). This prescription contains everything that we need to heal the world’s difficulties and all of the diseases of the ‘self’ that we see today.

To be modernised, you can follow any of the teachings of today, but to be civilised , you must follow the teaching of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), the Perfect Master of Mankind - the One that Allah sent as a Mercy to the Worlds.

We ask Allah (swt) to grant us nearness to Him and to fill our hearts with the love of Rasul Allah (saw), the love of his teaching and the love of his example. We ask Allah to make us into one of those who will guide others to the teaching of Muhammad , the Prophet of Allah (saw).

There is no success except in the following of Rasul Allah. We ask Allah (swt) to take us by the hand and guide us to his Love, Insha’Allah. May Allah forgive us and guide us to Him. Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘Alameen.
