Retired secretary; hospital volunteer; family on Cape Cod
ATTLEBORO - Virginia "Mae" MacDonald, 77, a resident of Attleboro who leaves a daughter in Marstons Mills, died Saturday at Sturdy Memorial Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Robert E. MacDonald Sr.
Mrs. MacDonald was born in Barrowsville and graduated from Norton High School. She worked for many years in the main office of Fernandes Supermarkets as a secretary, retiring years ago. A communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, she was also a member of the St. John's Ladies Guild. A 17-year cancer survivor, she was a volunteer at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. She also was an avid bingo player and enjoyed tea parties.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Guimond of Marstons Mills and Mary Anne MacDonald of Whitinsville; two sons, Robert E. MacDonald Jr. of Warwick, R.I., and Michael D. MacDonald of Whitinsville; a sister, Florence Briggs of Attleboro; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro, followed by a funeral Mass at 1 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 N. Main St., Attleboro.
Burial is in St. John's Cemetery, Attleboro.
Visiting hours are 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.

Salvatore Sorabella, 88
Former owner of Cape Cod Bark and Garden Center
EAST DENNIS - Salvatore Sorabella, 88, a resident of East Dennis, died Tuesday at the Orleans Convalescent and Retirement Center in Orleans after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Grace (Cacciola) Sorabella, who died in March 2000. They were married in 1938.
Born in Somerville and raised and educated in Watertown, Mr. Sorabella lived in Watertown for most of his life until moving to East Dennis in 1977.
For many years he owned and operated Cape Cod Bark and Garden Center in Sandwich. He enjoyed growing tomatoes.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Carie of Lexington and Joann Russas of East Dennis; a brother, Louis Sorabella of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three sisters, Sylvia Schuman and Mary Moscato, both of Boca Raton, Fla., and Antoinette Apone of Mashpee; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was also the father of the late Barbara DiRe.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow from the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main St., West Harwich, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Cape Church, Stoney Brook Road, Brewster.
Burial is in Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Dennis.

Edmund F. Robery Jr., 57
Owned Robery's Painting and Decorating; enjoyed family
HYANNIS - Edmund F. Robery Jr., 57, a resident of Hyannis, died Tuesday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Judy (Wilson) Robery of Hyannis.
Mr. Robery was born in Randolph and attended Wareham schools. He was the owner and operator of Robery's Painting and Decorating for more than 20 years, and excelled in his work as a painter and decorator. He enjoyed spending all his free time with his grandchildren, who were a big part of his life.
Besides his wife, survivors include a son, Mark Robery, and two daughters, Tonya Robery and Heidi Bartek, all of Florida; a brother, Craig Robery of Florida; a sister, Deborah Castellano of Ohio; a stepson, Jeffery Albright of Missouri; two stepdaughters, Dawn Arnsdorff of Minnesota and Cynthia Stack of Pennsylvania; 20 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, with a wake service at 7 p.m. Burial is private.

Louise Fitch, 83
Homemaker; active in Brown Club, duplicate bridge club
WEST DENNIS - Louise (Heckman) Fitch, 83, a resident of West Dennis, died Sunday at Mayflower Place.
She was the wife of the late Parmelee H. Fitch.
Born and raised in Providence, R.I., she graduated from Lincoln High School. She also graduated from Brown University in 1940 and from Katherine Gibbs School in 1941.
After her marriage, Mrs. Fitch became a homemaker, living in Providence until 1974 when she moved to her seventh-generation family summer home in West Dennis, where she had been a lifelong summer resident.
An avid bridge player, she was a member and past president of the Dennis-Yarmouth Citizens Duplicate Bridge Club.
She was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth and a member and former secretary of the Brown Club of Cape Cod.
Survivors include a son, Frederic P. Fitch of Brockton; and two grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at St. David's Episcopal Church, South Yarmouth.
Burial is private.
Karen M. Cox, 37
Retailer for Peachtree Designs; lived in Falmouth, Sandwich
SANDWICH - Karen Marie (Grinnell) Cox, 37, died Tuesday at her home after a long illness, surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of Jeffrey T. Cox since 1993.
Born, raised and educated in Falmouth, she graduated from Falmouth High School.
Mrs. Cox lived in Sandwich since 2001, having returned to Massachusetts from Florida. She had also lived in Sandwich before moving to Florida.
She worked as a retailer for Peachtree Designs in both Barnstable and Mashpee for six years. While living in Florida, she was employed by Circuit City in both Naples and Clearwater.
Mrs. Cox enjoyed arts, crafts and cooking and she loved animals.
Besides her husband, survivors include her mother, Caroline J. (Omell) Grinnell of East Falmouth; a daughter, Stephanie E. Morton of Falmouth; three sons, Cory E. Morton of Mashpee, Bryan Cox of Sandwich and Timothy Cox of Sandwich; a sister, Katherine Piela of Plymouth; a brother, C. Russell Grinnell of Houghton Lake, Mich.; her maternal grandmother, Ruby Jackman of Houghton Lake, Mich.; a niece; two nephews; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Abbot B. Schwebel
Attorney in Connecticut; owned home in Truro
POINT PLEASANT, N.J. - Abbot B. Schwebel, a resident of Point Pleasant and Truro, died yesterday at his New Jersey home after a long illness with cancer.
He was the husband of Marilyn Schaefer for 39 years.
Mr. Schwebel was a member of the Connecticut Bar from 1964 and had a practice in Vernon, Conn., for 35 years. For many years, he represented the towns of Vernon, Coventry and East Windsor, Conn. He was also assistant states attorney for Tolland County for 18 years and a special constable in Vernon in the 1960s.
Besides his wife, survivors include three children, Tamson Zucker, Todd Schwebel and Lauren Inzero; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Temple Beth - El Cemetery, Route 33, Neptune, N.J.

Clare Frederickson, 72
Worked in doctor's office; Sandwich summer resident
RANDOLPH - Clare (Frawley) Frederickson, 72, a resident of Randolph and Sandwich, died yesterday at her home in Randolph.
She was the wife of Frank E. Frederickson.
Born and raised in Randolph, she graduated from Stetson High School in 1948.
Mrs. Frederickson was formerly an employee of Dr. David Wiener, a pediatrician, for more than 15 years. She enjoyed summering in Sandwich for the past 50-plus years.
Besides her husband, survivors include four daughters, Noreen Clements and Cathy Gambino, both of Abington, Linda Sullivan of Avon and Suzanne Giannotti of Marstons Mills; a son, Frank Frederickson of Yarmouth; and 10 grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 N. Main St. (Route 28), followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Randolph.
Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph.

Walter H. Renear, 77
Manufacturing engineer; on Tisbury board; WWII veteran
VINEYARD HAVEN - Walter Hume Renear, 77, a resident of Vineyard Haven, died Monday.
He was the husband of Rebecca Allen Renear of Vineyard Haven.
Born in Oak Bluffs, he was educated at Tisbury High School, Armed Forces Institute, Fort Knox Armored School, St. Louis University (Parks College of Aeronautical Technology), Kansas City College, University of Missouri and California State College, Sacramento.
During World War II, Mr. Renear was a technical sergeant in the Armored Force (Tanks), serving in the European theater.
After the war, he was associated with the family automobile business before joining the Westinghouse Aviation Gas Turbine Division in Kansas City as a senior engineer. Later, he worked for the rocket and missile manufacturer AeroJet General Corp. in California as manager of manufacturing programming and control. Before retiring, he worked for K&E, an engineering equipment manufacturer, as assistant plant manager. For many years he was involved in intelligence work, and after his retirement he was an engineering consultant to defense manufacturers.
Mr. Renear had an enthusiastic interest in genealogy and Vineyard history. When he was 16 he twice walked around the shoreline of Martha's Vineyard proper and a third time included Chappaquiddick Island.
During the 1970s and '80s, he was a member of the Tisbury Planning Board, frequently serving as chairman and playing a leading role in the development of townwide zoning, subdivision control, harbor management planning and long-range planning. He operated a commercial fishing dragger for several years after his retirement.
Mr. Renear was one of the youngest people ever to have full membership in the Society of Automotive Engineers, and later became a member of its governing board. He was also a member of the American Management Association, American Ordnance Association, YMCA, Scout Council and several fraternal organizations.
A licensed pilot in his younger years, Mr. Renear enjoyed flying. He also had a lifetime interest in boating and fishing. He made a number of visits to Northern Ireland, Canada and England.
Besides his wife, survivors include a son, Dr. Allen Hume Renear; a daughter, Dawn Renear; a half brother, the Rev. Miles Wetherell Renear of California; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Thomas E. Comer, 87
Real estate broker; gas fitter; active in prostate cancer group
SANDWICH - Thomas E. Comer, 87, a resident of Sandwich and formerly of East Dennis, died Tuesday at Mary McCarthy Hospice House.
He was the husband of the late Louise V. (Cole) Comer.
Born in North Quincy, Mr. Comer graduated from Boston College High School. He attended Lowell Institute and Suffolk Law School.
Mr. Comer was a real estate broker and a master gas fitter. He worked for the Boston Gas Co. as manager of commercial-industrial sales for 43 years, retiring in 1980. He was a former member of the American Gas Association and the New England Gas Association.
A longtime East Dennis resident, and formerly of Milton, he was very active in the Men's Prostate Cancer Support Group of Cape Cod and served as chairman of the Men's High-Riser special interest group.
Mr. Comer published "Man-to- Man," a quarterly newsletter for men with prostate problems on Cape Cod. He also spoke to many community groups to increase the awareness of prostate cancer.
Survivors include two sons, Philip Comer of Bristol, Conn., and Kenneth Comer of Springfield, Va.; a daughter, Barbara Diamond of Brewster; and five grandchildren.
