Dear Friends:

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone in the region who has helped our Olympic and Paralympic bid effort – government officials, local athletes, business and community leaders, contributors and all the volunteers. Although we are disappointed that our quest to bring the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to Washington, DC is over for now, everyone in our region should be proud of the Olympic spirit they have fostered in our community and the several, positive legacies that have been created.

For example, we have increased focus on youth fitness through OlympiKids and Youth Sports Day, enhanced regional cooperation, and promoted a sense of community, excitement and cohesion not often seen in the Washington/Baltimore area. Our Olympic journey may be over for now, but the Olympic spirit of cooperation and commitment to youth and community that has been cultivated will forever live on.

Washington, DC and the surrounding region have long been a symbol of freedom and peace to our nation and to the world. Despite our loss, we are proud of what our nation’s capital represents and will continue to be a beacon for world peace, and uphold the Olympic ideals as a “peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity.”

We extend our congratulations to New York and San Francisco and pledge our assistance in working with them to bring the Games to the United States in 2012.

Yours truly,
Washington, DC 2012 Team
