Paula Yates was the daughter of British TV star Jess Yates and actress/dancer Heller Toren. Paula later found out that Jess was not her biological father, and she was said to be traumatized by this discovery. (Another TV presenter, Hughie Green, was her biological father.) When she was a teenager, Paula became a groupie and at the age of 17, she became romantically involved with Bob Geldof, leader of the Boomtown Rats. Bob later went on to greater fame in the mid-'80s as the organizer of Band Aid and Live Aid. Paula became famous in the '80s as a TV personality by hosting the TV shows "The Tube" and "The Big Breakfast." She is also the author several books about her life. Bob and Paula lived together and had their first daughter, Fifi, before getting married in 1986. They later had two more daughters, Peaches and Pixie.
During her marriage to Bob, reports surfaced that Paula was having an affair with Terence Trent D'Arby. In 1995, Paula began having an affair Michael Hutchence, the lead singer of INXS. Michael was engaged at the time to model Helena Christensen. It wasn't long before Michael broke up with Helena, Paula left Bob, and Paula and Michael moved in together. Paula and Bob's relationship ended in a bitter divorce, and the former couple battled over the years for custody of their three children.
In 1996, Paula and Michael had a daughter together named Heavenly Hirrani Tiger Lily, also known as Tiger Lily. That same year, Paula was busted twice for drug possession. (She claimed the drugs were planted.) Michael and Paula were engaged to be married when he died in 1997. Although the official cause of death was ruled a suicide, some people believe that Michael died accidentally of auto-erotic asphyxiation. (He was found naked in a hotel room with a belt tied to a door and wrapped around his neck.) Paula publicly denounced the suicide ruling.
After Michael's death, Paula had a nervous breakdown and spent time in drug rehab. During this time, Paula made tabloid headlines when she began dating Kingsley O'Keke, a heroin addict she had met while they were both in the same drug rehab facility. Predictably, the relationship didn't last. In 1998, Paula lost custody of her kids by Geldof. In 1999, Paula's celebrity conquests continued when she became involved with "Lord Of The Dance" star Michael Flatley.
In 2000, Paula Yates was found dead by her daughter Tiger Lily Hutchence in her London home. Heroin, marijuana, pills, and alcohol were found near Paula's body. Her death was officially ruled as a heroin overdose. After Paula's death, Bob Geldof was awarded custody of Tiger Lily.
