FLOWER AND BUTTERFLY BOOKMARK

Make 3 butterflies first, then join them to the flowers as below.

Butterflies

Wings are made with increasing then decreasing sized picots. the first is a small picot and progresses to the middle which is about 3 to 4 times as large as the first.
Alternately - you can make the last butterfly a swallowtail by making the center picot of the 2nd and 3rd rings very, very long (about 5 or 6 times as long as normal).

Leave about a 2" thread at the beginning.
R 7-2--2---2----2---2--2-7.
R 5-2--2---2--2-5.
R 5-2--2---2--2-5.
R 7-2--2---2----2---2--2-7.

Cut thread leaving about a 2" tail. Fold butterfly in half, matching like rings. Hold the two threads together and tie an overhand knot in them very close to the base (for the head) Trim threads to about 1/2 inch for antenna.

First Flower

R 2-2-2-2-2-2.

1st round
CH 2-2-2-2. Join to next P in prev. ring.
Repeat till there are 6 petals.
Join end to beginning of first CH.

2nd round
CH 2-2-2-2-2-2. Join to next P in ring. (Same P as first row)
CH 2-2-2+(to 2nd P from inside of top right wing of butterfly #1) 2-2-2. Join to next P in ring.
CH 2-2-2+(to 2nd P from inside of top left wing of butterfly #1) 2-2-2. Join to next P in ring.
CH 2-2-2-2-2-2. Join to next P in ring.
Repeat last chain 2 more times for total of 6 petals. Join to beginning of first chain.
Cut & tie.

Middle Flowers

R 5-2-2+ (to 2nd P from inside of lower left wing of prev. butterfly) 2-2-5.
R 5+ (to last P of prev. R) 2-2+ (to 2nd P from inside of lower right wing of prev. butterfly) 2-2- 5.
R 5+ (to last P of prev. R) 2-2-2-2-5.
R 5+ (to last P of R) 2-2+ (to 2nd P from inside of upper right wing of next butterfly) 2-2-5.
R 5+ (to last P of prev. R) 2-2+ (to 2nd P from inside of upper left wing of next butterfly) 2-2-5.
R 5+ (to last P of prev. R) 2-2-2-2+ (to first P of first R) 5.
Cut & tie.

Repeat middle flowers instruction one more time for third flower and butterfly.
Secure and clip loose threads.
