Run

(Madhavan, Meera Jasmine, Atul Kulkarni)

Madhavan and Meera Jasmine come together in 'Run' produced by A.M. Ratnam for Surya Movies. The film is written and directed by Lingusamy who had proved his credentials with 'Anandham', the Mammootty-Devayani-Abbas-Sneha-Murali-Rambha starrer. A lavishly budgetted film, as all Ratnam films are, 'Run' has Madhavan playing his first action role. Anu Haasan, Raghuvaran, Vivek, Ravi Prakash, Vijayan, Hanifa, Rajashri, Janaki, Sabesh and S. N. Lakshmi play supporting roles. Meera Jasmine, the upcoming Malayalam actress, enters Tamil films with 'Run'.

While the scenes are to be shot at locations in Chennai, Karaikudi, and Srirangam, among other places, the songs are planned to be shot abroad in Denmark and Switzerland. Vidyasagar scores the music, cinematography is by Jeeva, sets designed by Thotta Tharani, editing by Lenin-Vijayan, stunt and dance choreography by Peter and Raju Sundaram respectively.

Says Lingusamy, "When Madhavan was planning to move away from his soft-hero image and go for action subjects, I narrated this story to him. It is action, blended with romance. The story begins in Srirangam and ends in Chennai. We initially signed Reema Sen (Suchitra Sen's daughter and sister of Ria Sen) to play the heroine. But, after a couple of days shooting, we realised that she was having a tough time uttering her dialogues. So we parted with mutual consent and signed Meera Jasmine."

At the M.G. R. Film City, Chennai, some scenes were shot on Madhavan. It was of Madhavan fighting with some rowdies. Thirty cars, ten autos, some two-wheelers and buses were used for the scene. For Madhavan, it is a change of style and image from the soft-hero roles he has done earlier. 'Run' is slated for a July release.
