Kristin Hoyle

Hello world! I am an art studio major, in the area of printmaking, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and this is my web page. This is part of a very interesting Honors Seminar I'm taking this quarter called Philosophy through Film.

Let me tell you a little about myself, forgive me if I am longwinded, I love to talk! I am 21 years old and I grew up about 35 miles south of Birmingham in a really small town. For as long as I can remember I have known that I wanted to pursue art as a career, I just wasn't sure what avenue. I do, however, know now that I want to be an elementary art teacher. I was inspired beyond belief by my elementary art teacher and hope to give other kids who love art those same opportunities that I had. I go to church at First Baptist Church in Childersburg,, where I sing in a youth/college choir and lead a youth girl's Bible study. I chaperone their youth choir tour every summer, where we travel across the United States to share our faith with others; we even get to sing the National Anthem at some Major League Baseball Games!I love to hike and camp, the Grand Canyon is by far the most beautiful place that I have ever been. I hiked the Canyon from rim to river and back in a day (20 miles!!) and recommend that challenge to everyone. I love to read; Catcher in the Rye is my favorite book. I am hopelessly in love with John Lennon and can listen to the Beatles 24/7. My biggest weakness is shoes; I must have fifty pair. No matter how poor I am, there's always room for one more pair!

My favorite movie in the whole wide world is...

I Like Dead Poet's Society because no matter how many times I see Ethan Hawke stand on his desk and proclaim, "O Captain, My Captian," I cry every single time. I admire anyone who spends part of their life creating something and sharing that creation with others. Robin Williams shares his passion for life with his students and enriches their lives far more than they realize at the time. I hope that I can inspire my students to love life and art as much as he did.

As far as others movies go, I will watch anything once. I love anything that Nicolas Cage is in, especially Gone in 60 Seconds. I love Top Gun, Good Will Hunting, Finding Forrester, all James Bond movies, Almost Famous and of coarse Star Wars. I am kind of partial to The Yellow Submarine and who doesn't like Braveheart?
