 Synopsis
What started out as a simple at-home craft wound up one of the most memorable accessories for young girls of the 80’s. The barrette was a plain silver curve with a center space that allowed thin colored ribbons to be braided around the base. The use of two different colors created a distinctive herringbone pattern, and for the more advanced weavers, several colors could be used to create a cornucopia of color.

The ribbons were left long to dangle alone, or with beads attached at the end. Barrettes with decorative ribbons made a fancy adornment for you own hair, but much like friendship bracelets, they were best when traded with friends.
