Status of Construction Activity

In February 2000 the Government of Ontario announced funding for the continued four laning of Highway 69 south of Parry Sound. That year, four construction contracts commenced.

Three of these contracts cover the 26.5km section of four laning from Tower Road at MacTier to 2.7km north of Highway 141. The new highway runs on new alignment west of existing Highway 69.

Under these contracts, three interchanges are being constructed at existing Highway 69 south of Tavern Road, Airport Road and existing Highway 69 at Rankin Lake Road. Twelve new bridges are being built along this section. Construction of this section is currently on-schedule for opening in the fall of 2003.

The fourth contract involves the 4km section from 2.7km north of Highway 141 to Badger Road. This four-laning is built partially on new alignment and partially as twinning of the existing highway. This contract which includes an interchange at Seguin Trail and two new bridges was opened to traffic in October 2002.

In the fall of 2001, the 10km four-lane by-pass of Parry Sound on new alignment east of old Highway 69 was opened to traffic.
