30 Years of Abortion and Its Impact on Women

≈ National Symposia ≈

January 2003 will mark 30 years since abortion was legalized in all 50 states. Since then, 40 million abortions have been performed in America. Women now in their 60s and 70s had abortions in the first years after legalization. Many young women now undergoing abortion have grown up in a culture of “choice” and have never known a time when abortion was not available.

Deep disagreement over abortion has never subsided in intensity. Women face the issue in college, in their health care plans, in the workplace. Three decades is a significant period from which to assess the myriad ways in which abortion has affected women, their relationships, their health, their lives, their future.

These symposia will provide a unique opportunity to examine the consequences of three decades of abortion on demand. It will bring together some of the most qualified scholars, analysts, and speakers to assess the experience of the last 30 years and to suggest change for future possibilities.
