Legislation:
Target Date November 2, 2003 for U.S. Membership
On November 2, 2002, President Bush signed into law legislation to implement the Madrid Protocol, a treaty to facilitate international registration and maintenance of trademarks.
INTA is committed to assisting trademark practitioners in understanding how to take advantage of the Madrid "option" in deciding how best to obtain trademark protection outside the United States. As a first step, an
in-depth report on the impact
of U.S. adherence on trademark law and practice is now available. INTA also is planning workshops and forums in 2003 providing training and practical advice on obtaining international registrations through the Madrid Protocol.
