Legislation supported by the California Space Authority that will protect the airspace surrounding Edwards Air Force Base from encroachment by energy producing wind turbines has been approved by both Houses of the Legislature and is pending signature by Governor Gray Davis. The measure, authored by Senator Pete Knight, is SB 1989. While this measure was first written to protect airspace surrounding military installations statewide, local governments expressed objections and the measure was narrowed to cover the airpace known as R-2514 only.
