Devan

(Vijakant, Karthik, Arun Pandian, Meena, Kausalya)

Actor-turned-director Arun Pandian's directorial debut 'Devan' is almost in the finishing stage and to hit the theaters shortly. 'Devan' has Vijaykant playing a cop, and Arun Pandian himself playing a killer on the run. The supporting cast has Karthik who plays a lawyer, Meena, Kausalya, Vivek, Senthil, Thalaivasal Vijay, Ajay Ratnam, Chandrasekhar, Vinu Chakravarty, Karikaalan, and Sai Kumar, a popular actor of Malayalam films.

Arun Pandian who had made his acting debut after passing out from the Film Institute, with Abhavanan's 'Oomai Vizhigal', and later went on to act in films like 'Inaintha Kaigal', 'Duraimugham', and also films in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, has reached his 99 films mark. 'Devan' is his 100th film, in which he acts, produces, writes and directs. An action thriller, it centres round a murder and the search for the killer. On a rainy day, one of the pillars of society, a very wealthy influential man is killed, the killer leaving no trace, clue or evidence. As the police investigate the murder and probe deeper, the case seems to become all the more complicated. Finally the killer is caught and his motive revealed. The climax scene was shot in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, at the harbour, where underwater sequences were shot, using helicopters and ships.

The film's cinematography is by Selvakumar, sets designed by Ramiyan, stunts choreographed by Super Subbarayan, editing by Vasu-Salim, and dance choreography by Chinny Prakash. The film has music by Illayaraja.

Says Arun Pandian, "It's a story that I penned about 10 years back. Earlier when I'd casually talked to Vijakant about my intention of directing a film he had said that he would definitely act whenever I directed it. I reminded him of it and he promptly agreed. He was confident and didn't have any apprehension that I being the actor-director would give more footage to myself!"
