The Sculpture of the 16th Century

SCULPTURE IN TROYES
DURING THE C16TH.
In the early C16th, sculptors in Troyes were still following medieval traditions. A new style then developed, with statues, which had distinctive faces, and an emphasis of details on their clothing. It was named the famous "school of sculpture of Troyes", characterised by a kind of preciosity, with refined draperies, jewels, and hair.

Dominique le Florentin, who worked at Versailles, introduced a third phase where the artists were influenced by the Italian Renaissance.
